Happy Democracy Day๐ณ๐ฌ
As we commemorate this important day, we reaffirm our commitment to systems that promote transparency, trust, and national development.
Together, we move Nigeria forwardโจ
The moment your car was flagged, your agent can't save you. The seller's number will be switched off. Only your customs duty record speaks for you.
Verify before it gets to that point.

If you're buying a car in Nigeria, there's one question nobody tells you to ask: has this car cleared customs properly?
Continued in comments.
5. It came through an unofficial route
"My uncle brought it in" or "we cleared it through Seme border, no wahala" these are not reassurances. These are warnings. Unofficial clearance almost always means unpaid or underpaid duty.
The fix takes less than a minute.
4. The vehicle can't be traced on official records
If you search the car's details and nothing comes up, or what comes up doesn't match; that's a red flag. Properly imported and duty-paid vehicles leave a paper trail. No trail means no peace of mind.
3. The seller discourages you from checking
"Why are you looking for trouble?" "Do you know how many people have bought from me?" Any seller who gets defensive when you want to verify a car's duty status is telling you everything you need to know.
2. The papers are "being sorted"
Classic. You ask for the customs papers and suddenly everything is "in process," "with the agent," or "coming next week." Legitimate vehicles have documentation. If the paperwork isn't ready today, walk away today.
Everyone loves a deal. But if a fairly new car is going for way below market price, there's usually a reason. One of the most common ones? The duty was never paid. The seller needs to move it fast before it becomes a bigger problem; and they're happy to make it your problem.
Not the seller. Not your mechanic. Nobody.
And by the time you find out the answer, you've already signed, paid, and driven it home.
Here are 5 signs to watch for before you hand over your money.
1. The price is suspiciously low
You've been playing it safe. This car hasn't.
Unpaid customs duty doesn't announce itself; it shows up at a checkpoint, in a dispute, when it's already too late.
One check on CVMS before you buy is all it takes.
