The Oman Energy Association (OPAL) held a meeting with accredited training institutions under the “OPAL Star Training Committee” as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance training quality and develop national competencies in line with the requirements of the energy sector. The meeting featured discussions on several strategic areas aimed at improving training standards, exchanging professional best practices, reviewing current challenges, and supporting continuous improvement in capacity building while enhancing the future readiness of the national workforce. Through these initiatives, OPAL reaffirms its steadfast commitment to developing a highly skilled national workforce and fostering a culture of quality and sustainable professional development.

Wednesday, 10 June 2026, the Oman Energy Association (OPAL), in collaboration with Oman Shell, hosted the Oman Road Safety Forum 2026 under the patronage of H.E. Mahmood Abdullah Al Aweini, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance. The forum brought together more than 200 industry leaders, road safety experts, and college and university students, and featured over 20 speakers representing various organizations. The forum included two insightful panel discussions. The leadership panel addressed the realities of moving beyond compliance, focusing on leadership accountability, operational pressures, fatigue, human factors, contractor alignment, and frontline execution. The expert panel focused on translating road safety commitments into effective operational controls, smarter assurance, vehicle standards, technology, contractor performance, and measurable improvements. Technical presentations were delivered by OPAL, the Royal Oman Police, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman Shell, and Petroleum Development Oman. The presentations covered several topics, including road safety strategy, national road safety initiatives, human factors, smarter assurance practices, and the Safe System Approach. As part of OPAL’s continued commitment to road safety, the forum introduced the OPAL Safe Driver Excellence Award for the first time, recognizing drivers who demonstrated strong commitment to safe driving and compliance with OPAL Road Safety Standards. Five outstanding drivers were honoured under this new initiative. The forum reinforced the energy sector’s collective commitment to supporting OPAL’s Road Safety Standard and Road Safety Strategy (2023–2030), while strengthening collaboration toward safer roads and improved road safety performance.

Thursday, 4 June 2026, the Oman Energy Association (OPAL), in collaboration with Occidental Oman, conducted an Incident Management Standard Review Workshop hosted at Occidental Oman’s Head Office. The workshop brought together subject matter experts and specialists from across the energy sector to review and finalize the updated version of the Incident Management Standard in preparation for its planned issuance in the third quarter of 2026.

Wednesday, 3 June 2026 – The Vocational Education Team at the Oman Energy Association (OPAL) participated in a seminar titled “Vocational and Technical Education Pathways: Future Horizons and Empowerment Opportunities,” organized by the Directorate General of Education in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate and attended by parents of Grade 10 and Grade 11 students. During the seminar, the team highlighted the strategic importance of vocational and technical education, with a particular focus on engineering and industrial disciplines and the promising academic and career opportunities they offer. The team also outlined the educational and training pathways available to students and their role in developing skills and guiding students’ interests toward specialized fields that align with labor market needs, contributing to the development of a qualified national workforce capable of supporting key strategic sectors.

The Oman Energy Association (OPAL), in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Occidental Oman (OXY) under the Is’ham Program, Gulf Petrochemical Services & Trading, and Al Ghalbi International Engineering & Contracting, organized an induction session for the Employment-Linked Training Program, "Mechanical Technician." Funded by the Ministry of Labour, the program targets 24 Omani job seekers holding diplomas in Mechanical Engineering, with the aim of equipping them with the skills and competencies required for employment in the mechanical field. The program will be delivered by the National Training Institute (NTI) over a period of 18 months, with participants to be directly employed upon successfully completing all program requirements.
