Wednesday, 10 June 2026, the Oman Energy Association (OPAL), in collaboration with Oman Shell, hosted the Oman Road Safety Forum 2026 under the patronage of H.E. Mahmood Abdullah Al Aweini, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance. The forum brought together more than 200 industry leaders, road safety experts, and college and university students, and featured over 20 speakers representing various organizations.
The forum included two insightful panel discussions. The leadership panel addressed the realities of moving beyond compliance, focusing on leadership accountability, operational pressures, fatigue, human factors, contractor alignment, and frontline execution. The expert panel focused on translating road safety commitments into effective operational controls, smarter assurance, vehicle standards, technology, contractor performance, and measurable improvements.
Technical presentations were delivered by OPAL, the Royal Oman Police, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman Shell, and Petroleum Development Oman. The presentations covered several topics, including road safety strategy, national road safety initiatives, human factors, smarter assurance practices, and the Safe System Approach.
As part of OPAL’s continued commitment to road safety, the forum introduced the OPAL Safe Driver Excellence Award for the first time, recognizing drivers who demonstrated strong commitment to safe driving and compliance with OPAL Road Safety Standards. Five outstanding drivers were honoured under this new initiative.
The forum reinforced the energy sector’s collective commitment to supporting OPAL’s Road Safety Standard and Road Safety Strategy (2023–2030), while strengthening collaboration toward safer roads and improved road safety performance.
