IEEE 802.11 is the global standards body behind Wi-Fi. DeepSig’s Jim Lansford chairs the Wireless Next Generation (WNG) Standing Committee, the incubator for future Wi-Fi standards. At last week’s IEEE 802.11 meeting in Victoria, BC, WNG reviewed 11 technical presentations on the challenges shaping next-gen WLAN, often referred to as Wi-Fi 9.
Dr. Lansford and CTO
@oshtim presented how AI-Native techniques already used in 5G/6G can be applied to Wi-Fi to improve robustness and throughput in high-interference, congested environments. WNG work continues through 2026, with a formal study group expected in the second half of the year and Wi-Fi 9 development starting in 2027.
DeepSig is proud to help lead AI-Native innovation for the future of Wi-Fi and
#6G.
