In the wake of #alevelresults2021, we at Class Act have created a guide explaining what support we offer to students #GoingToOxford - with some links to other societies too! 💚 (thread)
ALT Congratulations if you’re #GoingToOxford!
We are Class Act, the Student Union Campaign that exists to support students who identify as one (or more!) of the following: state comp educated, working class, low income, first gen, care leavers
or estranged students.
If you want to know what support is available to you, or how to get involved with us when you come to Oxford then read on!
ALT We have a private Facebook group for any incoming freshers that fall under our remit. This is a chance to meet people from similar backgrounds before you start, as well as asking any questions to our committee who are also in the group. You can request to join this with the link in our Instagram bio or message us on any of our socials for the link to the group.
Also feel free to message any of our socials with questions and we’ll do our best to answer / put you in contact with someone at your college who can help.
ALT One way you can get support from Class Act is our Class Act Family Scheme.
Class Act families act just like a college family - it's a mentoring system, but made up of those from a similar background to you who have specifically signed up to help you out! If you're an incoming first year, this is a great opportunity to make more friends from a similar background and to know you have people there if you need support, or even just a chat.
This scheme will be launching soon, so keep an eye out on our socials for when you can sign up!
ALT In term we host regular social events that are always incredibly welcoming and informal. These are a great chance to meet new people, and chat to people from similar backgrounds! Even with covid we still want to create a sense of community - we did a fully virtual term card last term so are ready for the challenge!!
Make sure you’re following our socials to hear all about our events!

ALT We'd also love to give Oxford First Gen a shout out, a group for students who are among the first generation to go to university - they also host fab regular socials!

ALT If you fall under our remit & identify as LGBTQ (including being questioning) there is also support for you! Just like our mentoring scheme, Oxford University LGBTQ Society do 'rainbow families' where you can be paired up with current LGBTQ students - and there is an option to request a working class parent where possible.
