Here’s my fun yet embarrassingly hilarious story about the Hurricanes and Bojangles. The Carolina Hurricanes and Bojangles run a “Power Play” promotion. Whenever the Hurricanes score at least one power-play goal during a game, fans can get a free Bo-Berry Biscuit the next morning. All you have to do is walk in and proudly declare: “I’m a Caniac, and I’m here for my free Bo-Berry Biscuit!” Simple enough, right? Well, the next morning, still riding high from some sweet power-play action the night before, I strutted into a participating Bojangles with all the confidence in the world and proudly announced: “I’m a Caniac, and I’m here for my free Bo-Berry Biscuit!” The entire restaurant came to a complete standstill. I’m talking record-scratch, movie-scene levels of silence. Every employee looked at me like I had just walked in speaking an ancient language. Not a single person had any idea what I was talking about. In fact, I’m pretty sure they thought I was trying to invent my own coupon on the spot. I awkwardly tried explaining the promotion. Then I explained it again. Then I somehow found myself trying to convince the entire staff that I wasn’t running an elaborate Bo-Berry Biscuit scam. Nothing was working. After several painfully embarrassing minutes, they finally took pity on me and kindly placed a Bo-Berry Biscuit on my tray with that famous Southern hospitality. To this day, I still don’t know if they ever believed the promotion was real or if they simply wanted me to stop talking. Either way, I got my biscuit. And that was also the first and last time I have ever asked for that promotion in person. 🤣🏒
