.@newrelic made a VERY interesting move here. @CoScale has focused on #K8s monitoring specifically for 2 years, and thus has developed some advanced container monitoring features. Potentially important competitive / product implications enterprise IT pros should be aware of.

After @Comsofnv (where we sold part of the technology to OPNET), this is the 2nd UGent spin off that I worked for where the technology was sold to an US company. So if you have a spin-off or start-up that you'd like to grow and sell, hire my services. 😉

After 4 fab years at @coscale I have decided to take a sabbatical to focus on my other passion: wine! I will still keep in touch with the IT world, but will probably be a bit less active here. You can follow my wine mumblings on @peterarijs.

A topic that we have also been debating a lot in the early days. Encouraging everyone to take part in @ttunguz's survey to get more data on this!

I always enjoy @LawrenceHecht's market research and analysis. This should be another interesting one on #serverless!
.@thenewstack & I launched a survey to help better understand the #serverless ecosystem, use cases, patterns & practitioners. Please take & share the survey. bit.ly/2LOzdqo #faas. Special thanks to @mikebroberts as we used some of his definitions in the survey.

Late read after vacation, but fully agree with @ttunguz on this. We might still miss some traditional monitoring features at @coscale, but clients choose us because we're far ahead on the container monitoring front, which is our competitive differentiator! tomtunguz.com/why-your-start…

This is why you need lightweight container monitoring! Classical APM tool using almost a full core of CPU on a small Kubernetes cluster, 10 times more than @coscale does!

So I came back to this a couple of days later because I think is probably one of the most interesting things @mipsytipsy has talked about recently but will largely be ignored by the community at large. Many engineers' attitudes about marketing are wrong, and frankly harmful. x.com/mipsytipsy/status/1011…

I've been employed as systems engineer since I was 17 years old, over half my life. Computers are twisty and interesting and require some diligence, but they aren't *hard*. You know what is hard? Marketing.

A lot of the larger OSS projects are backed by companies that make profit of support, consulting, cloud services, enterprise versions, etc. For them the OSS version is a way to drive you to the commercial offering. I wouldn't call Red Hat a begger after their latest results. x.com/bphogan/status/9788237…

If you use open source tools to make a profit, you should find a way to pay it forward. The people building the tools you used to raise your Series A shouldn’t have to beg for tips.

It's all about #Kubernetes at from me at @devexperiencero this year. I full day hands on workshop for beginners, and a talk aimed at explaining Kubernetes for (Java) developers. We do love #Kubernetes at @containersoluti so you can expect some passionate evangelism :)
