The two-day Stakeholders Consultative Forum to Enhance Communication for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables (FFV) Export Growth under the EU-Uganda SPS Project closed this afternoon with an interactive dialogue on the role of media in advancing Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) compliance and export growth. The discussions focused on how to effectively leverage traditional and digital media platforms to increase awareness of SPS standards, communicate export opportunities, and bridge the information gap between policymakers, regulators, exporters, and farmers. Participants also identified key communication gaps and opportunities within the SPS ecosystem and explored practical approaches for monitoring the impact of media coverage on awareness, compliance, and stakeholder engagement. At PACEID, we believe communication is a strategic tool for economic transformation. A well-informed export ecosystem strengthens compliance, enhances market access, and contributes to Uganda's competitiveness in international markets. We commend the organizers CABI for creating a platform that recognizes the media as a critical partner in promoting Uganda's export agenda and driving sustainable growth in the fresh fruits and vegetables sector.

PACEID yesterday joined other key stakeholders: @MAAIF_Uganda, @mtic_uganda, @ufzepa, @hortifreshffv, @FamuneraOnline and private sector, at the opening of the two-day Stakeholders Consultative Forum to Enhance Communication for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables (FFV) Export Growth under the EU-Uganda SPS Project at Golden Tulip Hotel Kampala. The forum seeks to strengthen communication strategies that support compliance with Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) standards and enhance Uganda's competitiveness in export markets for fresh fruits and vegetables. Dr. Bill Okaka of CABI emphasized that communication remains one of the most critical, yet often overlooked, components of successful development interventions. "Communication is not that simple, yet it is highly ignored. Communication should be central to everything. Being an expert in your professional field does not automatically make one the best messenger," he noted. For Uganda to expand exports of high-value fresh fruits and vegetables, communication must move beyond information sharing and become a strategic tool for awareness, compliance, market access, and stakeholder coordination.

We support the efforts of @tookeonline Director General Rev. Prof. @floriemura, in her role as Nutrition Ambassador to the @Official_UOC. Ahead of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, she engaged with Uganda's young athletes, emphasizing the critical role of nutrition in sports performance, resilience, and overall wellbeing. Her message was clear: "great athletes are built not only through training, but also through proper nutrition." The interaction highlights the growing partnership between nutrition, sports, innovation, and youth development. Through initiatives such as the Olympic Day Tooke Run, stakeholders are championing a shared vision of empowering young people, promoting healthy lifestyles, and preparing Team Uganda for success on the global stage. PACEID commends Prof. Muranga and the Uganda Olympic Committee for advancing this important agenda and inspiring the next generation of Ugandan champions.

Chairman @OdrekRwabwogo challenges Bugweri district leaders to embrace learning, organization, and long-term thinking as the foundation for economic transformation. “Today will never return. Let us use it to the maximum by learning. Learning leads to change because when you learn, you teach others,” he said. Using the “Three Box Model” of leadership, Rwabwogo urged leaders to preserve valuable traditions and achievements, abandon practices that limit progress, and deliberately create the future they desire. He proposed the establishment of an aggregation centre in Busoga equipped with dryers, refrigeration facilities, and other post-harvest handling infrastructure to improve standards and reduce losses.

During the training with local leaders in Bugweri district, our Head of Secretariat @matthewbagonza outlined the PACEID's four foundational pillars of markets, standards and compliance, export infrastructure, and export financing. He also explained the transition from PACEID 1.0 to PACEID 2.0, which focuses on industrial parks and aggregation centres, data analytics, trade agreements, and value chain capacity development. He emphasized the importance of effective communication and leadership in spreading the export readiness message to communities. “You are the leaders who will carry this message to the people. Uganda’s transformation will depend on how well communities understand value addition, production, standards, and markets,” he said.

Uganda remains vigilant, prepared, and committed to protecting both citizens and visitors following the isolated imported case of the Bundibugyo Ebola strain from DRC. The @GovUganda, through the @MinofHealthUG and other agencies, has activated surveillance, screening, contact tracing, and response measures to contain the situation. Uganda’s @MoICT_Ug Minister @CHRISBARYOMUNS1 reassures the world that Uganda has experience and capacity in managing public health emergencies and continues to work closely with regional and global health partners. While some countries have issued travel advisories, experts and health leaders continue to caution against panic-driven restrictions that hurt trade, tourism, and livelihoods more than they help public health efforts. We encourage travelers, investors, and partners to rely on verified information from official government and health authorities. Uganda’s tourism sector, hospitality industry, and export economy remain resilient. @guardian theguardian.com/global-devel…

While opening the 2nd Annual Symposium of CropLife Uganda at Sheraton Kampala Hotel, @OdrekRwabwogo emphasized that Uganda’s export transformation begins with “the garden, the classroom, and the family”, highlighting the importance of responsible farming, knowledge, values, and collaboration across the agricultural value chain. Key highlights from his address: ▶️Uganda’s exports have grown from USD 4.2B in 2022 to USD 9.4B since PACEID was commissioned. ▶️Stronger standards and compliance systems are essential for sustaining export growth. ▶️The proposed Food and Agriculture Regulatory Authority (FARA) Bill 2026 will strengthen regulation, residue monitoring, and food safety systems. ▶️PACEID is advancing aggregation centres to improve farmer training, traceability, and compliance support. ▶️Uganda must invest in export infrastructure, logistics, cold chains, and affordable export financing through UG Exim. ▶️Responsible communication and accurate reporting are critical to protecting Uganda’s export reputation globally. PACEID remains committed to working with government, regulators, farmers, exporters, and the private sector to build a competitive, safe, and export-ready agricultural sector.

We are raising global children… but are we grounding them? Family is where culture is passed, where discipline is learned, and where identity is formed. Without it, education alone is not enough. Bring children closer. Let them see your work. Let them understand your journey. That is how values are built.

We often think success in agriculture is about doing more. More crops. More activities. More expansion. But the real lesson is different. Focus on one thing. Build it well. Let it generate the revenue to grow everything else. And beyond systems and structure… attitude matters. Patience. Kindness. Discipline. That’s what builds strong teams and sustainable enterprises. Africa has the resources. Now it needs the discipline to match. #AfricaDevelopment #Farming #Leadership #Uganda #Nigeria #ValueAddition #Growth

Uganda’s export journey begins in the garden, long before the container reaches the airport or the buyer’s shelf. At the CropLife Uganda Symposium, I emphasised that quality seeds, safe crop protection, farmer training, standards compliance and traceability must work together if we are to protect markets, build trust and grow agricultural exports. The garden, the classroom and the family of actors in agriculture must move as one. That is how Uganda will build a serious, safe and competitive export economy.
