Nice paper from @GarethHawkes1 and co. on WGS of height in 333k individuals. My favorite point was showing how important conditioning on common variants is for rare variant analysis. They started with 319 and were left with 80 (25%) after conditioning! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

A new exciting paper from deCODE (Stacey, Zink et al. Nat Gen) on the genetics of clonal hematopoiesis (CH) finds "no evidence that CH is associated with cardiovascular disease". While this contradicts many previous influential papers, it also aligns with many, dividing the CHIP-CVD literature into two groups with opposing views. Fascinating! Apart from haematological conditions, the authors argue, all the non-haematological associations (COPD, lung cancer, PAD, emphysema and alcohol abuse) are likely fully driven by smoking. Any associations that are seen after adjusting for smoking are likely driven by residual confounding. This also contradicts prior reports.
