As an experiment, I wrote a 450‑word piece on a topic without doing any research or using references (to preserve originality of thought and writing). Two AI detectors still flagged it as significantly AI‑generated. Not to boast, but if you write above average, your work can easily be marked as AI‑generated simply because it appears too perfect to be human. The rhythm and structure that detectors interpret as AI are often just the color and play of language that a lot of us try to bring to our writing. Essentially, some humans write well (and use em/en dashes all the time!)... AI detection is just as prone to error as AI generation.

Reportedly from Dadu’s heatwave: a silent tragedy. While we count temperatures, nature counts lives. These birds paid the price of extreme heat. Climate change is here, and its victims cannot speak for themselves. #Dadu #Heatwave #ClimateCrisis

🚨The recent images of Dr. Hussam Abu Safyia are shocking evidence of Israel's abuse against Palestinian detainees. Dr. Abu Safyia has been arbitrarily detained for one and a half years without charges, while being physically abused and denied healthcare. His recent solitary confinement adds a further layer of concerns over his deteriorating health. Dr. Abu Safyia must be immediately and unconditionally released. Israel must release all Palestinians arbitrarily detained. States must pressure Israel to stop abusing Palestinian prisoners. #FreeDrHussamAbuSafiya

🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️ Even Sushmita Dev was struggling to stop herself from laughing out loud. It seems that Arnab Goswami did not know where Saugata Roy’s loyalties lay. The Dum Dum MP hasn’t abandoned Mamata Banerjee yet.

Thoroughly enjoyed every word of this book because of the way it celebrates food and navigates the relationship between the colonisers and the colonised - their biases, and the way they view each other. I find it difficult to believe that anyone in 1938 (the year in which the book is set) would actually have thought or written something like this about indigenous cultures, food, or even the act of eating itself. But this is fiction, written in the present for us to read now, and it is quite beautiful. Tip: Avoid reading reviews on Goodreads or from professional critics. Dive into the book with an open mind.

Newsclick shut down, journalists lost their jobs - young reporters were called suspects. There should be an enquiry against the delhi police and ED officers in charge and should be made to pay damages
3 Oct 2023
NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha and HR Head Amit Chakravarty have been arrested. Delhi Police statement doing the rounds says a total of “39 male suspects and 9 female suspects” were questioned. As we had reported earlier, these “suspects” include young reporters and freelance journalists.

in india, workers could die by having tonnes of molten steel fall on their body and yet there is no outrage from privileged ppl but the same section of society will call workers anti-national if they protest for safer working conditions. the only reason for this is caste system.

Over three decades after its release, documentary filmmaker Anand Patwardhan’s national award-winning film, Father, Son and Holy War (1995), has been removed from YouTube after the platform flagged it as “violent content”. While Patwardhan appealed YouTube’s decision to take down the film, he said the platform rejected his review request within 15 minutes. “Youtube censorship again! Father, Son and Holy War is our 1995 film which got a U/A censor certificate, two national awards and the Supreme Court of India ordered Doordarshan to screen it at prime time in the public interest. Yet, 30 years later, Youtube has decided that it is too ‘violent’. It is a documentary that records the violence caused by religious fanatics and politicians vying for power. It is an expose of violence, not an endorsement of it. Shame on Youtube!!! Remove the censors, not good sense,” Patwardhan wrote in a post on Facebook. While the film has been removed from Patwardhan’s official YouTube channel anandverite, it is still available on another channel called Alukuchi Malukuchi. Interestingly, Youtube’s ‘violent or graphic content policy’ makes an exception for educational, documentary, scientific and artistic content. “Violent or gory content intended to shock or disgust viewers, or content encouraging others to commit violent acts, are not allowed on YouTube. In some cases, we may make exceptions for content with educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic context, including content that is in the public’s interest,” the policy reads. It is not clear why the exception has not been applied in this case. Read more on thewire.in

Half the people who died in India in 2024 had no access to a health professional or health care. This is literally how the other half dies. This is one of the disturbing details that emerged from the Sample Registration System Statistical report. Do we even care?

Crazy that this is getting barely any coverage. This year’s European Press Prize was just awarded to an investigative report by the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant. It is entitled “What the Wounds Tell” and in it the journalists Maud Effting and Willem Feenstra document the cases of 114 children in Gaza under the age of 15 who were struck by a single bullet to the head or chest. Almost all of them died or were left severely disabled. They chose to document only the cases of boys and girls under the age of 15 (though often much younger: aged 3, 4 or 7) because these are children who can be immediately identified as such. “A single bullet in these parts of the body is a clear indication that these children were deliberately targeted“, the two journalists write. This is the article: volkskrant.nl/kijkverder/v/2…

Welcome to Mumbai’s newest flyover worth ₹248 crore. At 750 metres of road, that’s ₹33 lakh a metre. And it opened this week full of potholes. The flyover is named after the iconic Mrinal Tai Gore, who spent her whole life fighting so ordinary Mumbaikars got a life of dignity. After seven years, three cost revisions, and a daily penalty on the contractor - this is all they could come up with to honour her? But kya karein. This is the standard now under the triple-engine sarkar. Cut the ribbon. Click the photo. Leave the potholes for us. Bajao taali.
Mrunal Tai Gore flyover extension opened up for motorists hour an hour back.

@PMCPune
