I meant nothing of the sort. I meant "Rarely worked outside the home." Men, even on farms, worked outside the home, out in the fields. Women engaged in cottage industries but were primarily home makers. They had large families. There were no day care centers.
You seem to have an eccentric idea about women in the 1950s, the era most boomers were children. Women were stay at home moms in the 20s, 30s, and 40s, even when their husbands worked in far-off factories.
Your "era of the SAHM" is the same era when it became routine to see women in the workforce.
