Even if I don’t agree with everything in this video, it shows how a demurrage currency #Freicoin keeps money circulating instead of being hoarded. Systems like the Chiemgauer... it can actively support regional economies. youtube.com/watch?v=WzijH3lg…

#Freicoin is one of the most underrated experiments in crypto and in many ways it tackles problems Bitcoin can’t or doesn’t want to touch in my opinion. Here’s why the Freicoin design is still fascinating for me: ➕ Demurrage Freicoin applies a small negative interest to idle coins. Sounds scary at first, but it solves a real problem: money should circulate, not sit in cold wallets forever. This pushes capital into productive use instead of endless hoarding ➕ Continuous funding for miners Unlike Bitcoin, which relies on a subsidy that trends to zero, Freicoin redirects demurrage fees to miners. A long-term, self-sustaining security model... not dependent on unpredictable fee markets ➕ Stronger economic incentives Demurrage encourages real economic activity: spending, lending, building, investing. Money becomes a tool not a trophy ➕ Fairer distribution & less plutocracy Hoarding becomes costly. Influence comes from participation not passive accumulation ➕ Gesell-style monetary design Inspired by Silvio Gesell, Freicoin blends crypto with an economic philosophy focused on velocity and economic health... something Bitcoin intentionally avoids But there are also disadvantages: ➖ Psychological resistance People hate the idea of “losing X%,” even if the system benefits. The term “negative interest” triggers strong emotional reactions many instantly associate it with state intervention, central-bank policy, or even “communism.” ...this makes it harder to communicate that Freicoin’s demurrage is fully algorithmic, decentralized, and not controlled by any authority. Optics matter ➖ Bitcoin culture is anti-demurrage “Number go up” and “never sell” dominate crypto. Freicoin goes the opposite way ➖ Communication is harder Explaining demurrage is more complex than explaining a fixed cap ➖ Store-of-value trade-off If saving is your only goal, demurrage feels like a penalty My personal note: It honestly took me a long time to understand all this. What really pushed me into researching Freicoin deeply was discovering the local Chiemgauer a regional currency from 2003, originally created as a student project, using the same principle of demurrage. That was the moment I realized how powerful (and misunderstood) this mechanism really is So what do you think... do these advantages outweigh the trade-offs or is demurrage fundamentally incompatible with crypto? Curious to hear your view...

You want to know what “decentralized” really means? It’s not some slogan to shout in a conference hall or the name of a YouTube channel. #decentralised means not needing to beg an exchange for permission to spend your own money. It means no middlemen standing between you and the person you’re transacting with, clipping a fee, demanding KYC, or locking your account because someone sneezed in compliance. It means digital cash — peer to peer, direct, immediate, final. That’s what it was built to be. It doesn’t mean Lightning Networks and custodial nodes pretending to be freedom while rebuilding the same financial towers they claimed to tear down. It doesn’t mean liquidity providers and watchtowers and federated hubs. That’s not liberty; that’s regression with better branding. And as for miners — they’re not priests guarding morality. They don’t know who you are, they don’t need to. They verify, they process, they get paid. Just like a cash register doesn’t need to know your birth certificate to make change. That’s the beauty of it. No identity, no authority, no permission. Lightning turns all of that back into control — contracts, intermediaries, and surveillance wrapped up in techno-babble. It’s not a revolution. It’s a rerun. Instead of the cash system that worked, we’re handed another pyramid where “trustless” means trusting someone else’s node to stay online. #DigitalCash #NotYourNodeNotYourMoney #PeerToPeer Try real Bitcoin... real cash.

Who is Bitcoin Core's largest contributor? Chaincode Labs. Balaji Srinivasan, co-founder of Palintir, and one of Citrea 's founders, funneled $500,000 through Chaincode Labs to spur development. In return, Bitcoin Core has identified Citrea as the Schelling point for the removal of OPRETURN limits. Who is behind Citrea? People like Eric Wall aka Taproot Wizards. Jameson Lopp. Peter Thiel. Mike Novagratz (remember Luna?), Erik Vorhees, and a numerous cast of Bitcoin Maxis (JK, no Bitcoin Maxis here). What does Citrea want to do? Create an Ethereum Virtual Machine with Ethereum like smart contract using ZK rollups. I'm glad Core is so committed to building on Bitcoin.

When you consider that growth compounds, the substantially lower growth rate in Europe means within a generation there will be a material discrepancy in living standards between Europeans and wealthy countries. The wealthy elite of Europe may not notice, but the average European will be far worse off. This discrepancy is what regulators have stolen from Europe's future, in order to ingratiate themselves with altruistic accolades in the present.

Only one European (well German of course) car in the world's best selling cars now Not a single European company left in the leading tech companies anymore Not a single European company left in the top AI companies This is why Europe has zero negotiation power at the world stage, it's become irrelevant Due to consistent anti-business overregulation by the European Commission most of the capital and talent has left This period will be studied in history books as an example how a central government of half a billion Europeans was able to nuke its own economy in record speed

Dear LBRYians, We updated our protocol page again. For some however, those protocols may seem too abstract, and building new software from scratch can feel daunting. Fortunately, contributing to LBRY doesn't require starting from zero; you can leverage the software that is already available. Curious about how to get started? Check out our new tutorials at lbry.tech/tutorials. Stay tuned for more updates! Ben CTO at The LBRY Foundation

Dear LBRYians, It has taken a while, but today we added the protocol page on LBRY.tech: lbry.tech/protocols. This page contains a list of LBRY protocols that have been recently documented. More protocols to follow soon. We would like to encourage you to take a look, give feedback, but most importantly, build amazing new software with it. Stay tuned for more.
