Are you someone who cites to the internet a lot? The web's a wonderful resource but can be more fragile than you think. Anyone working in #academia, #journalism, #legaltech- any industry that depends on reliable citations should be on the offense against #linkrot, Perma can help!

Pleased to be spreading the word about link rot on CBC Radio! Our new research shows that the legal record is not the only thing vulnerable to the decaying web.
You may not know it by name, but you've probably experienced "link rot." Well, what's just a minor inconvenience to most of us presents an immense challenge for archivists trying to preserve the record of life in the digital age, says @clare__stanton. cbc.ca/radio/spark/something…

Completely true. Election links and COVID data dashboards rot all too quickly unless proactively archived at the time of linking.
This gets worse for contemporaneous events such as elections where there is less reliable resources. In my dissertation on political discourse during 2012 election we identified that 3.4 percent of links had rotted within weeks following the election.

Darn it. 🥴 When link rot is in play, the early bird still does not get the worm. [Another reminder of @permacc's value.]
