PES Secretary General @giacomofilibeck and Deputy Secretaries General Saar Van Bueren and Thomas Vaupel joined the Founding Congress of PRO on this historic day at ‘s- Hertogenbosch. We look forward to keep working with PRO for a social, fairer and more sustainable EU.

Today, the European Union took a major step forward. All member states agreed to open the first accession negotiations cluster with Ukraine and Moldova. At the first intergovernmental conference on Monday, we will open the cluster on fundamentals; the backbone of the accession process. It covers the core values and principles on which the EU is built, from the rule of law to strong democratic institutions. This is a recognition of the determination, courage and hard work shown by both countries in advancing reforms, even in the face of immense challenges. And a signal that the EU’s offer of peace, stability and opportunity is unmatchable. Enlargement is a strategic choice. By bringing our nations closer together, we strengthen peace, security and prosperity across our continent. In a world marked by growing uncertainty, a larger European Union is in our common interest. Enlargement remains one of the EU’s greatest success stories and our best investment in our shared future.

🚸 Did you know that 138 million children worldwide are trapped in child labour? That's more than the populations of Spain and Germany combined. While progress has been made, the world missed its goal of ending child labour by 2025. We must do more. The PES will keep fighting for children's rights, and we call on the EU to build on its zero-tolerance approach to child labour and ban of products made with forced labour, to strengthen due diligence rules, and continuous support for global efforts to tackle the root causes of child labour. ✊

At the #GPM2026, progressive leaders and thinkers from across the world came together to discuss how to tackle inequality and strengthen social protection in the 21st century. 🌍✊ Among them were Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, Vice-President of Botswana, Kata Tüttő, President of the European Committee of the Regions, and Owen Jones, author and activist from the UK. Together, they explored progressive ideas and concrete policies to reduce inequality, strengthen social justice and close the gap between rich and poor.

Younger generations cannot accept a world where everyone is left on their own. At the PSOE Campus Joven, PES Secretary General @giacomofilibeck joined @javiersolana, @jalloul_hana and @lpajin for a discussion on multilateralism, peace and global power. His message was clear: progressives must work together, build strong alliances and gather enough political force to defend democracy, cooperation and solidarity. In a world of growing fragmentation, collective action remains our strongest answer.

I had a rewarding exchange on advancing women’s rights and gender quality with @PES_Women President - @zgurmai_EN We are united in our commitment to closing the gender care, employment and pay gap.

Rising petrol costs are another warning of our dependence on fossil fuels. Electrification is key to Europe’s sovereignty, particularly in the car sector. In the negotiations on the automotive package, we will defend: ✊ an ambitious emission reduction goal for new cars ✊ the use of green steel ✊ social leasing schemes to make electric cars affordable for all ✊ stronger targets for the electrification of corporate fleets ✊ jobs of the future No turning back the clock.

Our future is NOT something to be toyed with. Climate policies cannot remain mere promises.

Sport brings people together across borders, languages and cultures. As the #WorldCup begins, we celebrate the values of respect, teamwork and fair play that unite people around the world. At a time when the world faces many challenges, sport reminds us of our shared human values.

Intergenerational fairness is not about choosing between young and old. It's about ensuring everyone has access to decent work, affordable housing, quality healthcare and care services throughout their lives. At today's debate at the European Parliament, @acmendes73, chair of the PES Migration and Integration Network, stressed that solidarity, dignity and equal opportunity must guide the Europe we build for current and future generations.

Ahead of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU, PES Deputy Secretary General Saar Van Bueren is in Dublin, where she met with Labour Party leader @ivanabacik and General Secretary Billie Sparks to discuss shared priorities for Europe's future. We look forward to strengthening our cooperation with our Irish partners to build a fairer, more sustainable and more democratic Europe.
