Just had a good talk with Apple CEO @tim_cook about child safety online, and about AI and innovation. The EU has strong rules in place to ensure a high level of safety, security and privacy for minors in digital platforms. But we need to do more. EU leaders and the European Commission are examining how to make online spaces safer for minors, including through a digital age of majority for accessing social media. The G7 summit in Evian next week will contribute to a coordinated global approach to the protection of minors in the digital space.

Europe’s prosperity and social model are rooted in the competitiveness of our economy – that’s why we’ve made 2026 the year of EU competitiveness. Today I held a videoconference with CEOs of European telecom operators to hear how they are investing in innovation, digital infrastructure and integrating the EU telecommunications market. EU Leaders will review the progress on the implementation of the ‘One Europe, One Market’ competitiveness agenda at next week’s #EUCO.

Today, the European Union took a major step forward. All member states agreed to open the first accession negotiations cluster with Ukraine and Moldova. At the first intergovernmental conference on Monday, we will open the cluster on fundamentals; the backbone of the accession process. It covers the core values and principles on which the EU is built, from the rule of law to strong democratic institutions. This is a recognition of the determination, courage and hard work shown by both countries in advancing reforms, even in the face of immense challenges. And a signal that the EU’s offer of peace, stability and opportunity is unmatchable. Enlargement is a strategic choice. By bringing our nations closer together, we strengthen peace, security and prosperity across our continent. In a world marked by growing uncertainty, a larger European Union is in our common interest. Enlargement remains one of the EU’s greatest success stories and our best investment in our shared future.

Today, I spoke with His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to express the EU’s full solidarity with Bahrain following the latest attacks by Iran. These unjustified attacks by Iran continue to risk further destabilising the region and must stop. The EU urgently calls for de-escalation and for all parties to remain engaged on the diplomatic track. The EU will continue to support Bahrain, also in its capacity as the current Presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council and as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Thank you President @EmmanuelMacron for bringing together major global economies for an important dialogue on how to ensure balanced global growth. Excessive macroeconomic imbalances threaten growth and create economic and financial risks. The EU, as one of the world’s major economies, is ready to play its role in this debate. That is why EU leaders will discuss global macroeconomic imbalances in the June EUCO.

Norway is one of the EU's closest partners and friends, and it’s always a pleasure to welcome Prime Minister @jonasgahrstore to Brussels. We discussed EU-Norway relations and current geopolitical developments. We focused in particular on our European response to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Our shared objective is a just and sustainable peace that respects international law and the UN Charter.

Today I met with @SecGenNATO Mark Rutte and the #NATO Permanent Representatives, ahead of the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara. European Defence is a priority for the European Union and leaders will be taking stock of progress made at next week’s #EUCO. A stronger EU means a stronger NATO. And a stronger NATO remains indispensable for the security of Europe. That’s why we must continue working hand in hand to address our common threats and challenges.
