@totally_t_bomb Your metrics need an adjustment. There is no way you adequately accommodate for Michigan which has been great late and close all year. That’s a skill. Great late offense and D. Great coaching. No way Wisconsin, who lost to Michigan twice should be 13 spots ahead.

As a result of your metrics Michigan is underseeded. A great team sheet, 14 conference wins, wins over Purdue, Maryland and Wisconsin on consecutive days. A five seed? C’mon.

@DDuggan21 You’re getting so close to it. John Mara and the Mara family have had no idea how to run a football team for seven decades. Every hire he has made fails. I am pleased Schoen and Daboll are staying because I do think they are reasonably competent and stable.

I have zero confidence in any new John Mara hire. So at least we move forward. Looking forward to five part series on Mara family ownership.

@DDuggan21 The Giants weren’t good for 20 years in the Young era. They were good from 1984-91 because they had two of the greatest coaches who ever lived and LT. Still not blaming ownership. I have lived through all of this and it’s Mara. You haven’t and you think it’s Schoen.

If you ever want to talk to someone who has seen all of it since 1964 I would be happy to talk to you.

@DDuggan21 I remember when the Maras traded Sam Huff, Fran Tarkenton and Fred Dryer for nothing. The Mara family drafted WR Eldridge Small in the first round and played him at CB. Had 1 career int. I remember 72-41, 17-12, 39-38.

This is not about Joe Schoen. You don’t like to hear it but you are missing the story. When a team is bad forever it’s always ownership. There is a multi part series on the Mara family’s keystone kops operation of this franchise.

@martinonyc Fantastic book on Cashman. Unfortunately his player procurement, development and roster construction has been poor for most of the last two decades. The fact that he and his team believe they have done a good job is alarming.

On this year’s team alone they have misevaluated Rizzo, LeMahieu, Volpe, Verdugo, Trevino, Rodon and Torres. Amazing that Reese, Naehring and Fishman are viewed as competent when they have been largely awful over a long period of time.

@slmandel Well let’s just wait to see what the indictment says. Oh wait they are just leaking allegations before the investigation has even begun. There is no pretense of due process here. Destroy their reputation and smear them before the results of the investigation are known.

That is the point. No chance to confront their accuser, no chance to defend themselves. NCAA just wants Harbaugh.

They are still thinking Rortvedt is a major league player? Still unwilling to admit defeat from the Donaldson trade? They could have optioned him, DFA'd one of the nameless veterans relievers they scooped up during the season, and brought Wells up.

@ChrisKirschner Not enough attention has been paid to Mike Fishman. His hand has been in every decision for the last 17 years and I would argue most have not turned out very well. Their philosophy on players is poor, drafting and international signing have been poor...

He and his staff determine how games are managed. If you have the time I think this would be a good deep dive. A great data department is vital. A bad data department is devastating. Is Fishman good or bad? Yale math major, insurance actuary. Honestly don't know the answer.

@ChrisKirschner I realize the draft is a crapshoot, but the NYY drafted AA Wells the pick before Bobby Miller and two picks before Jordan Westburg. They also drafted Solak a couple of picksbefore Alonso and Bichette. I realize they have traded a number of draftees,

but no one they have drafted since Judge has ever really made it. These continued failures and the failures with international signings, none of which since Severino have really made it either are concerning. Thoughts?

It's just really early even though they have played 25 percent of the season. They have only played 3 games against the 7 worst teams in baseball. They have played a bunch against the three first place teams. They are a game out of the WC.

Grimes played only ten minutes. Obi who was 4-11 from three and might have been their best player sat most of the fourth quarter. The Knicks offense consisted of Brunson and RJ driving into a clogged middle without kicking. A one hundred percent Thibs show.

@ChrisKirschner NYY player selection and development, major and minor league under Cashman has been poor for a very long time. Very few young players get to the majors and once there guys just don't improve.

He's always picking the wrong guys & is forced to consider too many low cost options. You can count on one hand the number of prospects & international signings that have made it in the last decade. Oppenheimer, Reese, Naehring have been there forever with little accountability.

@RobTannerLCFC Since there are so many players out of contract and so many with only one year left isn't it easier to rebuild in the Championship than it is in the PL? Other than a one year financial hit, their wage bill will be a lot lower and....

....they can buy inexpensive younger players scouted by Glover. They will sell Maddison, Castagne and perhaps others. So I guess the question is given their current state, other than a blow to their collective ego, why is dropping down a level the worst thing?

This whole thing has been brought about by organizational mismanagement. The Championship gives them a good chance for a reset.

@DDuggan21 Just wanted to thank you for a fantastic year of coverage. There is no better source of NYG info and game evaluation. Couple of ideas: an oral history of the Dave Gettleman era. Good for you for calling him out in a recent story,

but I don't think he has been at all publicly accountable for nearly destroying the franchise. And then to take credit? Too much. Also interested in the cap sleight of hand by the Eagles and Niners to have basically a star at every position when every other team is struggling.
