While you’re investing in your career and trying to become better at what you do, don’t forget to invest in developing your mind too.
This is very important, especially for men. I get it that you live in a society that worships money, and you think once you have money, you can get anything you want including women.
If you also invest in developing your mind, the threshold at which you let people into your life will increase as you become more successful.
Suppose you meet a woman you really like, but she does not need you to buy her own wigs, make her hair, nails, change her clothes, phone or pay rent, what do you offer now that your debit card will always decline?
This is why you need to take a wholistic approach to personal development.
It’s not just about getting into your dream profession or reaching your financial goals. If you are religious, your goals should include becoming better adherents. There are vices you should gradually discard as part of your growth.
Your goals should also include becoming a better husband and parent than your own father.
There are many things money cannot buy. One of such things is having a wife who adores you and children who don’t bring shame to you. It looks simple, but many billionaires don’t have this.
They look happy with their billions, but deep down they wish they had it.
You can disagree and that’s fine, but the main incentive for men to go over and beyond to make money is to provide for their families. Even a teenage boy develops this trait and seeks to make life easier for his parents and siblings. As boys grow into men, the focus is to provide a decent life for the wife and children they don’t have yet. You can deny this, but if you’re being honest the main reason you’re either not married yet or don’t have kids is because you don’t want to have children who would 'suffer': you are not yet convinced you can provide a better life for another human being.
It’s easy to get carried away chasing money, career advancement and other things while ignoring the reason you wanted all those in the first place.
