In this housing market, it's reckless to ask our landlord for anything, even if it's permission to take extra security measures in a situation like my friend's. All reasons why we need Good Cause in VONP. (And Ulster County, tysm @AbeUchitelle & @philerner 💕)

My family was pushed out of the city of Newburgh by the high cost of housing. While I canvassed there for #GoodCauseEviction I met many tenants who are feeling the same pressure. Thank you to @mhvdsa, @ForTheMany, and candidate Giselle Martinez for fighting to pass good cause!

State legislators failed on this, leaving it to cities like Newburgh, New Paltz, and Kingston to fend for themselves instead of passing it statewide earlier this year. Good Cause Eviction is the first step to reclaiming housing as home, not “property.”

Our candidate in Newburgh's Ward 1, Giselle Martinez, spoke in favor of the legislation on behalf of the working class residents of her ward. Giselle's opponent (a Republican real estate developer) came to the City Council meeting late, did not attempt to speak, and left early.
