Mekong tributaries flowing from Myanmar to northern Thailand, once clear and pristine, have morphed into an ominous, murky shade of orange-yellow. The cause: abnormally high levels of arsenic, run-off from mines in Myanmar. buff.ly/uNXioFA

Glad to see this article now out. Part of a special issue on the history of international law, I write on, and against, the erasure of the Marxist tradition in the international legal history of decolonisation. brill.com/view/journals/jhil…

Very pleased to have written a report with @yuanyi_z for Policy Exchange @Policy_Exchange that challenges the commonly heard view that the European Convention on Human Rights is a “British legacy” – and that to leave the Convention would be to a “betrayal” of Sir Winston Churchill.  Through a close examination of the historical record, the report refutes that claim and demonstrates that the ECHR which was accepted by the Attlee government is radically different from the ECHR which exists today, with a vast gap between what its drafters had envisaged and the Convention as it exists today.
