Back when CC Finlay was the "editor" of F&SF in 2015, he retracted an acceptance he'd given me at Gordon Van Gelder's urging due to its "disturbing content" and begged me not to tell anyone what he'd done. Fearing repercussions, I complied.
Books are powerful tools and gateways to different worlds. When spaces like libraries and bookstores are stewarded with the communities they serve in mind, the result can be extremely impactful. southsideweekly.com/your-fri…

I remember at home, my mom - who had been raised Catholic and left -was like "Everyone knows she's right, that's why they're mad" and at school everyone was like "she's crazy, she's a bitch". It was a good lesson to learn that young.
Literally talk to one (1) queer theorist. Or I swear to god I will carsick tweet fifty times from Origen’s chopped of balls to Sade and none of you will enjoy it.
This is SO COOL
You may think gorillas are sexually dimorphic (large silverback males, smaller females) but younger individuals are not. A gorilla assumed to be male and well-studied by zoo professionals gave birth to an unexpected baby!
The only actual war against the female body & nature is when animators put big knockers on cartoon birds/reptiles/insects*.

NEWS: A supermajority of workers at @Grindr have signed union cards and launched Grindr United with @CWAUnion! By forming a union, “workers are committed to ensuring that Grindr remains a safe, inclusive, and thriving place for its users and workers alike.” 🌈
ALT [WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA] - Today, a supermajority of workers at Grindr, comprising members of the LGBTQIA community and strong allies, proudly announce the formation of Grindr United with Communications Workers of America (CWA). A supermajority of the approximately 100 eligible members have signed union representation cards at the company behind the leading LGBTQIA dating app. Grinder United members work across various departments at Grindr, including cloud engineering, customer experience, design, engineering, IT, marketing, privacy, product, and quality assurance. By joining together in a union, workers are committed to ensuring that Grindr remains a safe, inclusive, and thriving place for its users and workers alike.
ALT With 297 anti-LGBTQ bills currently introduced in the United States, the LGBTQIA community finds itself under attack. Now, more than ever, the workers at Grindr believe it is crucial to stand united and push back against these assaults on equality and inclusivity. This urgent need is further underscored by revelations surrounding the new CEO’s previous support of anti-LGBTQIA politicians on Twitter and via political donations.
With the @smithsonian’s ridiculous cancellation of this years Asian American literary festival, who should we be reading right now? Old, new, and yet to come? Drop names and titles here! And retweet too!!
When I was a kid this was habitually taught in schools but the alleged benefit was not "skills", it was "civilization" (if the school was pretending to do separation of church and state that week) or just straight up "we converted them to Christianity".
florida is now teaching students that slavery was good for the slaves
ALT A screenshot from the below article reading
“The updated standards say students should learn that enslaved people “developed skills” that “could be applied for their personal benefit,” and that in teaching about mob violence against Black residents instructors should note “acts of violence perpetrated against and by African Americans.”
Getting this kind of distortion even partly out of the textbooks and classroom materials was a long, difficult struggle and there are a lot of people excited to regress, because "Slavery and genocide really weren't that bad" are load-bearing myths of American nationalism.
Without stolen land and stolen labor at a formative stage, the United States simply doesn't exist in the form we currently see. Even nominal liberals often have a hard time fully grappling with this.
