Full sympathy. Academia has cracy "rules". I never left my PhD place. Unthinkable today. But should not be a barrier. Do better reviewers and hiring comittees. Only the science and track record should count.
I couldn’t move for a postdoc. Fellowship reviewers shouldn’t have penalized me for it | Science | AAAS science.org/content/article/…

What a week part II: After the search for Danube salmon we proceeded to the Neretva science week to explore, investigate, and enjoy this beautiful and vital river, and to search for the mystical softmouth trout. Shout outs to #UlrichEichelman and his team to make this happen!

What a week! It all started with the search for Danube salmon larvae in the river Pielach, to understand and describe the ecological needs of this highly endangered species. A project realized by the #umweltdachverb and in cooperation with the Ɩsterreichischer Fischereiverband.

Yesterday we made it down to the Ljuta confluence with Neretva. Pure wilderness, not many people have been there before. This might be a spawning side of soft-mouth trout. We took eDNA samples.

These are the stars of the Neretva, the soft-mouth trouts. The last healthy population as far as we know. Photo taken by Joshua Lim during science week.

What a wonderful day on Upper Neretva. Fish group caught lots of trout, most likely Adriatic trout (Salmo farioides).
