Australian art and architecture book publisher: books on Sirius, Del Kathryn Barton, Patricia Piccinini, Bronwyn Oliver, Rosemary Laing, Fiona Hall…more!
With new stock of Sirius, the book, hitting shelves at the end of the month, there’s no end of discussion about the building and what now lies ahead #auspolsmh.com.au/property/news/sir…
By popular demand, we have reprinted SIRIUS: the only book that traces the remarkable history of SIRIUS and its social and architectural history.
This is a must-have book for students or lovers of architecture, design, urban planning and history.
SIRIUS is a beautifully made hard-cover book, printed on eco paper and is also an ideal gift.
We are shipping in September, so place your pre-orders now. Available from good bookshops! More info: piperpress.com.au
Another timely article about the fate of the Sirius building and the failure of LNP privatisation to deliver what it promised would be “more social housing” from the sale proceeds. We are in a worse housing crisis. One hopes NSW has a better plan. theguardian.com/australia-ne…#auspol
Magnificent to see one of Fiona Hall’s early works, “Give a dog a bone”, on show at @mca_australia as part of their Artists in Focus exhibition on until August. We are currently in the process of creating the new edition of Fiona’s monograph over the next year.

Alongside objects carved from yellow soap and set into a pyramid of cardboard boxes, Give a dog a bone shelters an oversized photograph of Hall’s elderly father, standing upright like a revered chieftain and wearing a spectacular cloak knitted from aluminium Coca-Cola cans.
To one side of this image hangs a matching ‘string bag’ of 3/3 …the kind once used for shopping. From bathroom products and kitchen utensils to fruits, seedpods and even a fat little laughing Buddha, Hall brings mundane, natural and devotional objects into the same register. ”
Last week we couldn’t get access to our Twitter account. Now that’s fixed, we’d like to say that it is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of not one, but two, remarkable Australian artists and women, both the subjects of Piper Press books. 1/
Vale Destiny Deacon, one of our leading indigenous artists and Rosemary Laing, the extraordinary photo artist. May their life & work live on in their many works throughout national collections. Our thoughts are with their families, friends and colleagues.
