"poetry disguised as golf writing"...
💚
Thank you for having me @LINKSMagazine@al_lunsford@joepassov - so much fun thinking about the 19th holes of our travels! @Covesealinks was an unexpected late addition to my list, but a cherished one! ❤️
The hosts of the LINKS Golf Podcast are joined by @pitchmarks for a conversation about their favorite clubhouses in golf, making three picks each and throwing in a few honorable mentions.

Pitchmarks #155 - “Denham Late”
…For time slips away gently here, in the convivial chat over lunch, or in the rattling in of long putts. No-one cares what the clock says, and no one cares if you’re “Denham late”…

Love writing for @LINKSMagazine almost as much as I love the research phase of articles such as this! I make fewer mistakes in the 19th hole than in the ones that go before it!
Many British clubhouses are just as historic—and unconventional—as the courses they abut.

Some gold here, and thank you @tonyjdear for another fine list to explore. But the editor’s note at the end needs attention, for I’m halfway through the latest from @tonyjdear himself, and it is wonderful! Highly enjoyable, highly recommended!
We think the following 11 golf books (nine nonfiction, two fiction) focus on subjects and tell stories that LINKS readers will find incredibly interesting and/or highly amusing.

Pitchmarks #148 - “Sandhills and Solitude”
“when we drop beneath the wind to these bowls and basins, we are confronted by a silence that seems to coddle us with its peace. It is a place where time has no relevance…”
@RoyalStGeorgesopen.substack.com/pub/pitchm…
Pitchmarks #146 - "distorting time"
“Suddenly we are high above the world, treading in the hoof prints of geological time. Here a flushed mashie; there an ecstatic skylark…”
The depth of golf in 🏴blows me away again! @RoystonGolfClub@RoystonGolfProopen.substack.com/pub/pitchm…
Pitchmarks #145 - “Alignment Sticks”
On the importance of alignment…
“If you don’t know where you’re aiming, any ball will take you there…”
open.substack.com/pub/pitchm…
Pitchmarks #144 - “Simple Recipes”
On French vinaigrette, Bob Dylan’s acoustic years, and the magnificent Swinley Forest. And on the art of preservation.
“If this is how Colt wanted it, nothing on earth should change that. It is astonishing…”

Pitchmarks #143 - "Golfing Homes Volume 1"
On our earliest little patches…
“the place that brought the strongest heave to my chest was the campus of my real education, those little corridors of grass that were once the pitch and putt over Heath Park”
open.substack.com/pub/pitchm…
Pitchmarks #142 - “The Chapel in the Wilderness”
“this most unnatural of activities - the persistent nudging of a ball round an impossibly menacing field - seems so effortless natural on these bents and fescues, under these dark shadows”

There’s some wonderful golf on this list, no doubt. But for all the fancy stripes and Rolex clocks of the ones at the top of the game, how much fun there is in only double digits for a day exploring my highlights here. @KingtonGolfClub and @cleevehillgolf, for £95? Obscene value.
Thank you! The place writes its own story; I just get to be the conduit now and then! I wish Abercromby had left behind more, though…a man of few words, at least of the written variety. His golf courses are just wonderful, though
Another glorious day @TheAddingtonGC, whose condition was frankly ridiculous given the rain that has fallen since the New Year arrived. A privilege to watch this restoration gain pace; it is fast becoming what it once was: an architectural masterpiece. Thanks @HeadyPR! ❤️
Pitchmarks #140 - "Following Wind"
Every creative idea needs a spark. To some degree, for what became “Common Grounds”, @BroraGolfClub was that for me. Sharing a chapter from the book in the hope that some other souls venture up there! Thank me later ❤️

I’m always - ALWAYS! - excited to see the links at Rye. But to go and bring back a stash of Byfleet-origin sticks left there for me by @ForresterInfo is such a thrill! @WestByfleetGolf and neighbouring New Zealand get a bit of their heritage back. After I’ve waggled them a bit…
