I started in this shop within a few weeks of coming to UK from Afghanistan, so eager to work and study to have a new life away from conflict and contribute to the people who had given me sanctuary. The shopkeeper gave me a job with no experience and not much command of English. He wanted to support me, my family, and help me study. He also got me a praying matt! Now, I see the same compassion being received by other refugees and migrants in our communities, helping them integrate. Let's not forget that the majority in our society are welcoming people who are extending their humanity and warmth to migrants every day. #diversity #kindness
