when major label acts w crazy numbers are having to cancel tours full of underbooked venues, it’s v obvs that the metric doesn’t translate. 1 thing about the legitimacy of a Rolling Stone cover or a Pitchfork review is that is also incentivized ambitions separate from numbers
talent buyers are so inundated w emails that having like pitchfork link is short hand for legitimacy / can lead to better offers. and like… if these channels become obsolete, streaming numbers will be one of the ONLY metrics they have, even though they don’t reflect draw at all
