BJP cannot be 'normalized' in Kerala. For decades, forces, including the media, have attempted to legitimize them, aiming acceptance for one of the most vicious politics on the planet. Three seats is not normal. It's unacceptable. And eroding that remains our priority.

BJP supporters in all parts of India are celebrating the loss of DMK in TN and LDF in Kerala. Paints a clear picture, doesn't it? UDF is not a challenge for them. Hell, TVK just might be them in the immediate future. The southern front has fallen.

This is the part that people don't seem to understand. The assumption that the UDF-LDF rotation is somewhat a standard political trajectory for Kerala is completely untrue.
Replying to @sarayupani
UDF will bring in Liberal permission structures that will allow NDA to capture more seats It's a bad situation for now

the left government is not above criticism which most of you are right about but supporting a political party whose ideals have been more volatile than a penny stock is kinda funny to me. congRSS has always been an anti working class, casteist, and soft hindutva propogating

I've never seen this many South Asian comrades together outside of India! Bhagat Singh was a Marxist-Leninist (the right will disagree!), and it is more important than ever to turn back to his work today. Thanks, @NikhilMathew_ and @sfi_uk, for inviting me.
SFI-UK, in conjunction with PWA and IWA-GB, organised the 11th Bhagat Singh Memorial Lecure at SOAS University. The lecture brought together progressive sections of the South Asian diaspora and was chaired by Comrade Ekagrata, Convenor, SFI UK Central London Organising Committee.

Far too many people posting about racial capitalism, far too few people posting about Rob Knox's writings on how marxists should understand capitalism as an inherently racializing social system.

I am 100% against Israel's current policies but the recent events have convinced me more strongly than ever to go to a conference in Jerusalem in May (unless all flights are cancelled). Because the only way to maintain contact is to have a conversation. And boycotts, such as the academic boycott of Israel, produce the opposite effect. People who agree with you--or might agree with you--are excluded and left alone, and people who disagree with you feel empowered because they can brand all opponents with a broad brush of "enemies" (or whatever else is a convenient term).

Neither. A funded position.
What is more important for a PhD candidate: a well known supervisor or a prestigious university?

Our special issue of Labor and Society on the ecomodernist features of imperialism is now online in full. The issue makes a stronger contribution to theorising contemporary imperialism than I could ever have hoped. Here's a thread introducing each contribution. 🧵

I'm frankly devastated over Asad Haider's death. He was a major force on the left. He lived and breathed theory. Asad was able to take the most baroque theory and make it speak to practical political tactics and strategy. Very few could do that as well as him. Every issue of his publication Viewpoint was remarkable and when a new issue dropped, you just had to read it. When the pandemic hit we hosted a study group on Lazarus's Anthropology of the Name and Asad was so articulate with this work that he made all the concepts come to life for us. Asad was actually the first scholar I reached out to when I started @emancipations_. More recently, we had plans to host a major debate in New York on Marxism and philosophy. Asad was a mentor to many of us. His book Mistaken Identity is still one of the best interventions on the pitfalls of identity politics and I'd recommend it. Condolences to his family and loved ones. May he rest in power and in peace.
