Today, April 22 is Stephen Lawrence Day.🖤 33 years ago in 1993, Stephen at just 18 years was stabbed to death in a racist attack in Eltham, south east London. 🙏🏾 Today, we reflect on this death but more importantly we stand with his family and the Stephen Lawrence foundation to help build in his name for future generations. While there are constant calls for Lou to be knighted and officially recognised for his extraordinary charity work, I know that he’s never been motivated by personal reward. That’s why Lou Macari is a king among men. Disturbed by the number of people sleeping rough, he set up a shelter offering emergency beds, food, and support – the project that became the Macari Centre. A decade on, the Macari Centre has grown into an established local charity providing safe, short-term accommodation and practical help for people experiencing homelessness in Stoke-on-Trent. "The sad thing is, nothing's improved,’ says Lou as he laments the plight of the homeless. “If I'm going to be honest, I think it's got a little bit worse. "I think there are any number of causes.
