A great way to learn Memoir Writing- studying artwork and zooming in on the best parts.
👏🏻👏🏻 @MsMatson58 even read the Spanish parts in today’s writing mentor text: Family Pictures/Cuadros de Familia! Impressive! #dg58pride #fa58share

Such amazing authors!
I’m going to miss working with this class so much! We had a great time during the @Schoolwide FUNctional Writing unit. Students set goals, created various writing pieces, sent persuasive letters in the mail, & made our own Jolly Postman book! #dg58pride #pufferpride

Amazing!
In our functional writing unit Kdg. will be writing a persuasive letter to our parents. We wrote a class letter to our librarian @cforzley. We hope she will write back letting us know if we have persuaded her to let us check out two books each week. #dg58pride #LEchoosesHAPPY

You are assuming kids can’t learn how to read with these resources? Perhaps you should consider a broader lens that defines cultivating thoughtful readers instead of a myopic lens defining readers through creating decoders. You only did half of your research.
All students in the @troyschools have the right to learn how to read. My pleas have gone unanswered and the Troy School District continues to use Lucy Calkins, Fountas & Pinnell and Reading Recovery. Inspired by @ehanford in Sold a Story., we will speak and march! #soldastory

Really appreciated your perspective
Deeply appreciative. This math teacher has things to say about reading 😂

Except when you omit multilingual learners
In case you haven't heard, 3 cueing is debunked. Please stop defending it.

But did you show them that there are always two sides to a story, especially this one!!!

So I suppose intonation, expression, thinking aloud, metacognition, unpacking vocabulary, honoring and building background knowledge aren’t important? Maybe before posting something like this you should think about responsive teaching and educating ALL learners!

I am so impressed with the presentation skills of your young authors.
Our authors are sharing their writing! #fa58share #dg58pride

Perhaps it’s semantics. When using true gradual release, this portion of a lit. block may also be referred to as ind. practice which encompasses small group work, partnerships, ind rdg, writing about reading, etc. This allows for responsive instructional decision making for all.

I don’t agree with this. There are so many reading behaviors that can be observed through RR, and the small group structure of GR allows for explicit prompting/teaching into text characteristics and strategic actions. Where is the comprehension focus on ISBE?

I appreciate this post & recording as they once again reinforce the importance of research, which is a huge problem with all of the SOR posts-they lack relevant and current research and seem to include bias rather than balance.
Scanlon- Neither theory or research supports the heavy emphasis on phonics instruction nor the opposition to the use of contextual information. youtube.com/watch?v=qeIpd1mb…
