I join SG @antonioguterres in calling for an immediate end to all attacks, full respect for ceasefires, the protection of civilians, and unhindered humanitarian access. Dialogue and diplomacy remain the only path to a just and lasting peace.
I'm deeply alarmed by the renewed escalation in the Middle East. All attacks must stop immediately. The ceasefires in Lebanon, Iran & Gaza must be fully respected. Any steps that could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts must be avoided. I'm also deeply concerned by Israel's decision to close crossings into Gaza & reiterate my call for the immediate reopening of all crossings to ensure the rapid, safe & unhindered passage of humanitarian assistance at scale throughout Gaza. The exercise of navigational rights & freedoms, in accordance with international law, must be respected. Everyone must uphold their obligations under international law & take all feasible precautions to protect civilians. There is no military solution to the conflicts in the Middle East. The only way forward is through dialogue & negotiations. I urge all concerned to work towards diplomatic solutions that advance regional & international peace & security.

Moving Beyond GDP as a metric for economic growth to recognizing we need more to ensure we measure human dignity and wellbeing on a livable planet. The Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel of Experts delivers a concrete offer for all countries to consider as we keep the promise of the SDGs. un.org/sites/un2.un.org/file…
GDP is the most widely used metric of economic progress & well-being. But it cannot be the only one. GDP is indifferent to whether income goes to billionaires or to the poor – or if that income goes to addressing hunger, health or deprivation. Let’s count what matters: Health. Biodiversity. Job-creation. Human rights. Equality.

This is incorrect. Intergenerational mobility in the US is lower than in Europe. And the reason is straightforward: intergenerational mobility tracks income inequality pretty closely. This is the Great Gatsby Curve.
There really isn't that much talent buried in poverty. Talent is hereditary, so talented people usually have accomplished parents. Talented people born poor usually escape poverty in the US because our system rewards intellect and drive.
