Due process is essential but our thin blue line cannot always walk a thin blue tight rope. The job they do is utterly vital to society. They are heroes and Great Britain would be far worse without their courage and dedication. Our officers must know they have our support.

A great example of why people shouldn't jump to conclusions without knowing the full story. A firearms officer, violently attacked, hit in the head and then in the grip of his assailant as the taser darts hit. He experienced the same electric shock as the assailant. With his hands needed to hold his carbine, he cannot properly defend himself. His job is to subdue the threat, rescue his colleagues and do that knowing if he pulls that trigger he may well be hung out to dry. People who attack police officers must be subject to the full strength of the law. Police officers must be supported. The alternative is anarchy and mob rule.

Horrific. These men hit those police officers as hard as they could in an environment with children and families milling around. Reinstate this copper immediately.

Where are the charges against these violent thugs @gmpolice They deserved everything they got and more. The police officer should be getting a medal not a suspension and a charge! 😡

Context is everything, and finally we get to see a glimpse of the violence inflicted on three firearms officers, before the incident that has outraged so many. Deliberately edited social media videos rarely tell the whole story.

Yet the assailants have not been charged with assaulting police officers?? Absolutely shameful. This has an identical sense to it as the same police force’s blind eye being turned to grooming gangs. Put yourself in the cops boots, for one second, and tell me that after an attack of that ferocity, you’d still have absolute presence of mind and be able to fully rationalise all your actions. Yes we are trained on use of force, law, tactics… but nothing can prepare you for a situation like this… when this happens, situational stress sets in, vision and hearing narrows, threats are everywhere it’s fight or flight and basic reaction and instincts kick in… survival.
