.@Mozilla, if encryption is our last line of defense, you should be enabling HTTPS-Only Mode in @firefox by default. It's still disabled, even in Private Browsing windows. That means Firefox still makes unencrypted connections to websites without warning users. Look:

It's really simple. Encryption is our last line of defense for digital #privacy. Once it’s compromised, there’s no undoing it. Sign our petition and demand French lawmakers reject this dangerous amendment✒️👇mzl.la/4itihS2 @signalapp @mer__edith

Google announced yesterday that they no longer intend to deprecate third-party cookies in Chrome: privacysandbox.com/news/priv… In my opinion, this decision is a disaster for online privacy. Third-party cookies are a key method that advertisers and other tracking companies use to gather your web browsing history without your knowledge. Google's new proposal to give users an "informed choice" might be better than nothing, but it isn't yet clear what that choice would entail. In any case, what's to say this new proposal won't also be discarded after a few years, if Google discovers that most users would choose to stop tracking? There are other, more privacy-protecting browsers available for download today. Such browsers block third-party cookie tracking and many other forms of tracking by default. Unfortunately, privacy on the web in 2024 is still not the norm! Most people in the world are still using browsers that aren't protecting their privacy. These leaky browsers are knowingly facilitating mass surveillance and making our society, our democracies, vulnerable. What can we do about this problem? How can we ensure that someday soon, everyone is using a privacy-protecting browser? Have any creative ideas? Let's discuss!

People shouldn't need to be computer scientists, software engineers or lawyers simply to use the web.

For a browser and organization which has built its reputation entirely on protecting user privacy, Mozilla's latest moves are really eroding the trust of its core user base. @jonaharagon on how Mozilla disappoints us yet again blog.privacyguides.org/2024/…

EU apparatchiks aim to sneak a terrifying mass surveillance measure into law despite UNIVERSAL public opposition (no thinking person wants this) by INVENTING A NEW WORD for it—"upload moderation"—and hoping no one learns what it means until it's too late. Stop them, Europe!
📣Official statement: the new EU chat controls proposal for mass scanning is the same old surveillance with new branding. Whether you call it a backdoor, a front door, or “upload moderation” it undermines encryption & creates significant vulnerabilities signal.org/blog/pdfs/upload-…

People think ChatControl is about specific crimes. No, that’s not what’s at stake. What’s being made is an architecture decision for how private messaging systems work : if it passes, by law these systems will be wired for mass surveillance. This can be used for any purpose.
