Despite its failure to advance in this session, we remain undeterred and see ourselves in the mold of Civil rights advocates for fought for decades to end legal segregation in the US. Or LGBTQ leaders who waited 11 years before same-sex marriage became the law of the land.

Like any historic civil rights effort in this country, this bill was opposed by those who do not support equal fundamental rights for all, especially Dalits and caste oppressed New Yorkers who continue to face discrimination, loss of livelihood and challenges to their survival.
