Really enjoyed debating short-termism @BBCRadio4 Moral Maze, particularly discussions on instant vs delayed gratification, pleasure and purpose. Willpower has been over-stated as a mechanism; design power is far more effective in helping us make better choices. @michaelbuerk @monasiddiqui7 @timothy_stanley @AyoCaesar @jtworr You can listen to the full episode here - bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002x5…

The triple lock is almost certainly not a good way to maximise wellbeing. The problem is that any cuts loom much larger than any gains elsewhere, politically and psychologically. Be interested in hearing thoughts on how to overcome this…
Replying to @KevinASchofield
I will be amazed if the numbers add up and welfare is maximised. Any views @profpauldolan?

As an atheist, I recognise that religion sits at the core of how many people make sense of their lives. We don’t need to force a middle ground but rather to listen to different perspectives to make better collective decisions.

Enjoyed my chat with @KateEMcCann @StigAbell on @TimesRadio about whether we are getting happier - and who is pressing the buttons? We discussed nostalgia - you might not have been as happy as you think.

And we shouldn't underestimate the importance of social connection as a contributing factor to our happiness. Ask yourself if you have someone you can talk to about stuff. @bbcfivelive @rickedwards1 @therimaahmed
