In this segment of my interview with Marlon Rice, a candidate for New York State Senate District 25, we discussed homeownership, generational wealth, and the potential impact of inheritance taxes on families who pass property down to their children. Rice argued that homeownership has historically been an important pathway for building wealth and raised concerns about how certain tax proposals could affect families seeking to keep property within the next generation. The conversation also touched on displacement, housing affordability, and the challenges facing longtime residents in rapidly changing neighborhoods. These are issues that continue to generate debate across New York City and beyond. Watch the full interview and share your thoughts below.

In this segment of my interview with Marlon Rice, candidate for New York State Senate District 25, we discussed the future of NYCHA and public housing in Brooklyn. Rice shared his perspective on the challenges facing NYCHA residents, including aging infrastructure, elevator issues, apartment conditions, and the needs of long-term residents and seniors. He argued that significant investment will be required to address NYCHA’s repair backlog and discussed his proposal to dedicate additional funding toward repairs and improvements. Public housing affects hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers, and the debate over how to improve conditions remains a major issue in city and state politics. Watch the full clip and share your thoughts below: What do you think should be the top priority for NYCHA residents?

What makes someone decide to run for public office? In this clip, Marlon Rice, candidate for New York State Senate District 25, discusses the people and experiences that shaped his decision to enter the race. From growing up around community leaders and Black political leadership to lessons learned from his father, a 25-year NYPD veteran, Rice explains why civic engagement and public service have always been part of his life. 🎙️ During a recent conversation with Marlon Rice, candidate for New York State Senate District 25, we discussed the affordability crisis, displacement, and the changing face of Brooklyn. One statistic stood out: “In the last 10 years, 200,000 Black people have left New York City.” Rice argues that what’s happening goes beyond affordability. While rising rents, food costs, transportation costs, and everyday expenses are impacting New Yorkers across the board, he believes many Black communities are also facing a poverty crisis that continues to widen the wealth gap and contribute to displacement. In Bedford Stuyvesant alone, Rice noted that approximately 22,000 Black residents left over the last decade while roughly 30,000 newcomers moved into the community. Do you agree with his assessment? As New Yorkers head to the polls, early voting begins today for the upcoming primary election. Wherever you stand politically, make sure you’re informed, engaged, and participating in the process. For thousands of years, humanity somehow managed to survive using six simple words: Mother. Father. Boy. Girl. Man. Woman. Now we’re told those words are outdated. We’re told “mother” should become “gestating parent.” We’re told “father” should become “non-gestating parent.” We’re told new labels create clarity. But if that’s true… Why does everything feel more confusing than ever? While New Yorkers struggle with rent, groceries, crime, and affordability, Albany is spending time rewriting words that nobody was confused about. And here’s the question nobody seems willing to answer: If our leaders can’t agree on what a woman is… Why are lawmakers rewriting the definition of mother? Maybe I’m missing something. Or maybe common sense isn’t as common in politics anymore. What’s your opinion? 👇👇👇 #nyc #ny #fyp

Most people ride the subway without ever thinking about the people responsible for getting them home safely. But every day, thousands of transit workers show up knowing that one moment of attention can make the difference between a normal commute and a tragedy. This week I had the privilege of helping recognize two MTA employees whose actions remind us exactly why professionalism matters. When faced with a dangerous situation involving young people on the tracks, they didn’t hesitate. They relied on training, teamwork, and quick decision-making to protect lives. The truth is, heroism in transit isn’t always dramatic. Sometimes it’s the operator conducting safety checks before sunrise. Sometimes it’s the conductor keeping passengers informed during an emergency. Sometimes it’s simply staying alert when everyone else is distracted. New Yorkers move through this city every day because of workers who take that responsibility seriously. Congratulations to Anthony Outeiral and Chris Sarro on this well-deserved recognition. Thank you for your commitment to public safety and for representing the very best of New York City Transit. #mta #nyc #ny #fyp #public

We live in a world where people have the answers to everything except their own life. Giving opinions on everyone else life, but their life is in shambles lol

Most people can survive one big bill. What they’re struggling with is everything getting more expensive at the same time. 🏠 Housing 🍞 Food 🚇 Transportation 🚗 Insurance 📈 Inflation 📸 Tickets, fines, and fees The affordability crisis isn’t one problem. It’s a thousand small cuts hitting the same paycheck. And every year, that paycheck buys a little less while everything else costs a little more. New Yorkers aren’t imagining it. They’re living it. What’s the biggest “cut” hitting your wallet right now? 👇🏾💭 #nyc #mta #fyp #ny

New York’s priorities are completely backwards. A homicide victim’s family can receive up to $12,000 in burial assistance. But the same government trying to get guns off the street is offering up to $500 for many gun buyback programs. So let me ask a simple question: If one illegal gun can destroy a family, trigger a homicide investigation, lead to years of incarceration costs, create lifelong trauma, and ultimately result in funeral expenses… why are we spending more money AFTER the tragedy than trying to prevent the tragedy? Nobody is criticizing the families of victims. They deserve every dollar of support they can get. The question is why the system always seems willing to pay more for cleanup than prevention. That’s not a gun argument. That’s a priorities argument. And right now, the priorities don’t make sense. 👇 Am I missing something? #nyc #mta #ny #fyp

Let’s have the conversation nobody wants to have. The criminal carrying an illegal gun didn’t fill out paperwork. Didn’t sit through training. Didn’t wait for approval. Didn’t care about restricted areas. Didn’t care about the law. Yet somehow the people who actually follow the law are the ones facing the biggest obstacles to protecting themselves and their families. I’m not talking about vigilantes. I’m talking about ordinary New Yorkers who obey the law, pay taxes, and want the ability to defend themselves if the worst happens. If criminals are carrying guns regardless of the law, why are we making it harder for the people who actually follow the law? Agree or disagree? 👇 Let’s talk about it. #nyc #ny #fyp

A man got on a bus. Got into an argument. And never made it home. According to police, Jonathan Pettigrew was fatally shot after telling someone to stop yelling on a cellphone. Not over money. Not over drugs. Not over a gang dispute. A cellphone argument. We can keep having the same conversation after every shooting, or we can start talking about solutions. If New York is serious about getting illegal guns off the street, then a $250 gift card isn’t enough. We need real incentives: 🎓 College grants 📚 Trade school scholarships 📝 Civil service exam credits 💼 Job training opportunities 🏠 Pathways to housing and employment Because every illegal gun turned in is potentially a life saved. The question is simple: How many more people have to die before we try something bigger? 👇 What incentive would make someone actually give up an illegal gun? #nyc #fyp #ny #mta

Trump says Stephen A. Smith is a nice guy, but doesn’t have the aptitude or IQ to be President. Maybe I’m missing something… How many people build a multi-million dollar brand? How many people become the face of an entire industry? How many people stay relevant for decades? When Stephen A. talks sports, nobody questions his intelligence. The second he talks politics, suddenly he lacks aptitude? Why? At what point do accomplishments start counting? You don’t have to agree with Stephen A. Smith. But dismissing everything he’s built because he entered the political conversation raises a bigger question: Who gets to decide who’s qualified to speak on politics? 👇🏾 #nyc #ny #fyp

Knicks gave away that game! For some reason this game the Knicks stopped playing fast. Too many avoidable turnovers. Brunson and Bridges had bad games. I believe something is up with these refs also.

🔥 BROOKLYN SHOWED OUT TODAY. StoopSet wasn’t just a block party… it felt like Summer Jam pulled up to the neighborhood early. 🎤 Jadakiss had the crowd rocking. 🎤 Tracy Lee and Special Ed brought that classic hip-hop energy. 🎤 Lord Jamar of Brand Nubian was in the building. And the vibes were all peace, love, community, and culture. Big shoutout to Marlon Rice, creator of StoopSet and candidate for New York State Senate District 25. The support he has in his community is something special to witness, and I was honored to come out and support him on this journey. Brooklyn showed what happens when people come together. Good music. Good people. Good energy. 💯 If today was any indication, StoopSet is only getting bigger.
