The person in my office who is struggling the most with long covid—never-ending sinus infection, bad ā€œallergies,ā€no sense of smell, vision problems, hearing problems—is also the most openly hostile towards me. Most people just ostracize me because of my mask. She HATES me.

The driver picked me up again this morning…wearing his new respirator! šŸ˜·āœŠšŸš™
My public transport ride share driver was wearing a surgical mask. I gave him a spare respirator that I had in my backpack and showed him how to use it. He knows masking is important but thought surgical masks were enough. Small win on my way to work.

ā€œI’ve taken all kinds of vitamins but I still feel like sh*t.ā€ Probably just that June flu that’s going around the office. Everybody seems to have it.

Overheard at work yesterday: ā€œI haven’t been in the office all week. Everyone’s been sick….a couple visits to the ER.ā€ Also overheard at work yesterday (from the person who’s been sick the last 8 months): ā€œcan you speak up? My allergies are really bad; I can’t hear.ā€

I’ve noticed that many of the (maskless) public transit ride share drivers crack open their windows when they see I’m wearing a mask. So on some level they understand the importance of ventilation and clean air.

A car almost hit me this morning while I was crossing the street. The driver came to a rolling stop and I yelled ā€œwhat the hell, dude?!ā€ His window was rolled down so he heard me. He looked at me with a chilling, blank expression and drove away. People are not ok.

What public health pretends is the driver of policy: evidence-informed decision making. What actually drives public health policy: decision-informed evidence making.
Delta getting the quarantine for covid cut to five days should've been a much clearer moment for lots of people: all your public health standards is at the whim of the bosses who want you to die on the clock

The coworker who mocked me back in Oct (on my 1st day at my new job) has been constantly ill for the last 6 months. Today they’re at work complaining of a bad sore throat and cough. And I’m the weirdo because I don’t want to catch whatever ā€œis going aroundā€ my office perpetually

Maskless coworker just showed me a text from his adult daughter: ā€œof all the times I’ve had COVID, this is the worst! Wear a mask!ā€ šŸ¤¦šŸ»

I saw 5 other people wearing masks at the supermarket just now. Most I’ve seen in a while. One of the maskers was a woman with an unmasked guy. I assume they were a couple. Seems like the maskless person in this scenario is always a man.

I’m torn between calling in sick tomorrow because I need a day off and showing up because I don’t want to give one of my smug coworkers an opportunity to say ā€œso you were out sick, huh? Do you STILL think masks work?ā€

Surreal listening to coworkers constantly talk about their/their family’s cascading health problems and never bring up COVID or masking: ALS diagnosis, toddlers constantly sick, sinus infections, POTS symptoms, vision loss, lack of smell. And this is like 10 ppl in earshot of me

Coworker (who has been in and out of the office due to multiple illnesses and surgeries) just announced that their 49 year-old brother in law died suddenly. This is not normal.

My public transit ride-share was late so I took uber to my bus stop. Got on the wrong bus, got off, and now taking a 2nd uber to work so I’m not late. 1 hour and $40 wasted. Just so I can go to an office where everyone is sick and do a job that can 100% be done at home. Hate this

Not masking during an ongoing pandemic is participating in fascism. Regardless of what your stated beliefs are. It’s that simple.

I’m dreading going to work today. Nothing in particular. I’m just exhausted and worn down being forced to spend 8 hrs/day around vacuous drones who don’t mask, don’t pay attention to what’s going on in the world and don’t seem to be interested in anything beyond their bleak jobs.

In my work area (25-30 ppl) in a very lg office building: multiple eye surgeries, sinus infection, sinus infection, sinus infection, chronic cough, migraine, ā€œcan’t feel my fingersā€, perimenopause, uncontrollable sneezing. These are just the things ppl are talking or I can hear.
