AutoCAD in its early days
can anyone ELI5 why software needs to be "maintained"? Like why do you need whole teams working on stuff that already works? Hardware doesn't work like this If it functions, it functions and does not need to be changed unless you're replacing something worn out.

This is a primer for the data centers. Soon we'll have GW compute clusters guzzling electricity from a grid that already can't support it's populace.

please keep your water bottle caps tightened. BESCOM might cut the power to the entire city if the water spills.

Working in ML starts out as a math problem and very rapidly becomes a distributed systems problem

Tragically I am continuing to find that the most effective guardrail against slop is extremely talented engineers doing very thoughtful, human code review

WC3 is genuinely the best game ever made. Beautiful, full of life, and timeless. What new blizz did with reforged is a tragedy.
Game menus had a different vibe back then. I miss this style. The modern minimalistic design feels bland, and it's lacking soul. I am sure a lot of research goes into AB testing and optimization, but I will always prefer this...

This is crazy. The CEO of umbrella company just said there will be perpetual rain starting tomorrow. It's over.

It's crazy how exponentially complex a function needs to be to make gameplay actually fun vs simply functional. You can write a jump function with 2 lines of code, but it takes thousands more to create the 50 micro-nuances of the jump to make it actually feel fun.

there will be a cultural change at many software organizations soon where people declare bankruptcy on understanding the code they’re committing. sooner or later this will cause a systems failure that will be harder to debug than most, but will be resolved anyways

Pros of shaving my head: - the breeze feels good. - looking at mirrors no longer necessary. I always look the same. - facewash isn't a hassle (no more hair getting in the way) Cons: - going out in the sun is worse (is there sunscreen for the head?)
