A slightly revised cover (which I love) and a new endorsement for my next book. All of this is making for a very happy holiday season.... “Conspirator in Chief is a fascinating deep dive into the history of conspiracy theories promulgated by US presidents. In the internet age, we are used to thinking of conspiracy theories as a distinctly modern problem. Knott shows how they have been weaponized by presidents going back to Andrew Jackson, and along the way illuminates just how Donald Trump’s online firehose of conspiracies and misinformation serve his political aims. Excellent reading for US history buffs and those who want to understand our current conspirator-in-chief alike.”—Cailin O’Connor, coauthor of "The Misinformation Age: How False Beliefs Spread"

My interview on American POTUS re Conspirator in Chief. The practice of presidential conspiracy mongering did not begin with Trump, although he stands in a league of his own in terms of the sheer volume and outlandishness of his rumor mongering. americanpotus.org/episode-in…

Fight club matches, Trump passports, engraving Trump’s visage on the nation’s currency, cleansing uncomfortable lessons from the past, does not encourage thoughtful reflection on the meaning of the Declaration of Independence. The revolutionary idea that all are created equal and entitled to the equal protection of the laws is nowhere to be found in the current celebration. This is a missed opportunity to rededicate the nation to the unfinished work of fulfilling the spirit of 1776.

A good time was had by all at my book launch bash. As is characteristic of the Irish, my book ends on an optimistic note, despite the distressing topic. @Kansas_Press
Big congrats to my friend and fellow retired NWC professor @publius57 on his new book, "Conspirator in Chief." Of course, he launched it in an Irish bar :) amazon.com/Conspirator-Chief…

Part of our visit to the capital of Estonia involved a trip to the former site of a KGB prison/torture chamber/ execution site. Estonians today appreciate the rule of law more than many Americans.

When we go from forgiving to forgetting to actively honoring those who attacked our Capitol in an act of organized political violence, we don't just twist history, we create conditions that invite a dangerous future.
Hundreds of innocent PATRIOTS had their careers and lives RUINED by Biden’s weaponized DOJ. Ashley Babbit, an unarmed Air Force veteran, was wrongfully KILLED. Thank you, @DAGToddBlanche and the Trump admin, for establishing a standard and lawful process to hear from Americans who suffered from the J6 WITCH HUNT.

People saying he won’t also need to explain how to stop it, because he won’t stop on his own. Simply hoping it’s not possible ignores what’s been happening in Congress and the Supreme Court for the last year. This year’s midterms must be an overwhelming repudiation.
Trump: I'm gonna be in office in 2028. Maybe I'll be here in 2032, too. I don't know. Maybe I will

Evan Axelbank is a television reporter in Tampa, FL, who also hosts a terrific podcast on American history. His knowledge of the presidency is first-rate and helps him think about things other than the fate of his beloved New York Mets. I truly believe this conversation is worth a listen, especially at this time in our nation's history. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

Blatant contempt for the Constitution. Followed by the requisite silence from the originalist crowd.
John Marck refused to answer Senator @ChrisCoons's question of whether President Trump is eligible to run for president in 2028. This isn’t a trick question – it's in the Constitution. If you can’t say a president can’t serve a third term, you shouldn’t be a federal judge. 🚩

I think we've all had a lesson in this over the past several years. The "guardrails" are us. To an amazing degree -- a discomforting one -- a constitutional republic is run on the honor system. What is required is: honor.
“The rule of law is not self-executing.” Judge J. Michael Luttig on why defending the Constitution requires courage—especially now. Read his remarks from @UWSchoolofLaw: chkbal.substack.com/p/judge-…
