Just received this wonderful review of my novel Intercessions. It's always gratifying when readers connect with what you've written.

Emma Thompson tells AI to "just f*ck off" and calls it an "intense irritation" as a screenwriter. "I write long hand on a pad, old script actually, because I believe that there is a connection between the brain and the hand. So it’s very important to me. And then when I’ve written something, I will put it into a Word document. And recently, the Word document is constantly saying, ‘Would you like me to rewrite that for you?’ And so I end up just saying, ’I don’t need you to rewrite what I’ve just written, will you fuck off?! Just fuck off' I’m so annoyed." Read more here: variety.com/2025/film/news/e…

Our film, CODA, came to the attention of everyone because of Sundance. And Sundance happened because of Robert Redford. A genius has passed. RIP Robert.

Okay my lovelies, #WatchingYou is out on August 28, and I wouldn't lie to you, it's actually a pretty darned good book. But because I don't have Richard Osman's marketing budget, Louise Minchin's TV platform, Richard Coles' publicist or any other celebrity writer's stranglehold on the book world, it's hard to reach readers. So if you wonderful book social media folks could help me out, I'd be eternally grateful. You can pre-order this anywhere online (but signed/dedicated paperback copies are available through @Steyningbooks). Or just RT this for me/get it from your local library/tell your friends/leave a review when you've read it...every small action helps keep this writer and this book afloat. Thanks all. Raising a teacup to you today!

I was at the park with my son, writing while he played. Another mom was reading nearby and asked me what I was writing. When I told her about my book she said, "Oh my God! I've never seen a book growing in the wild before." 😄

As many nations ban books... Finland has started teaching school children how to identify fake news and propaganda as a part of its curriculum. Be like Finland.

In Fahrenheit 451, the abolition of reading began with tech companies simplifying books into summaries that you could read in five minutes. Because people no longer engaged with the texts, they forgot how to think. Then came the book-burnings.
Very cool how every piece of digital technology is now purposively designed to breed illiteracy

We do indeed.
On this day in 2017, we lost Chris Cornell. His voice could shake the sky and soothe the soul—all in the same breath. With Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog, and solo, he gave us everything. We still miss him.
