Today I joined our siblings at
@SEIU1000 as they chose to escalate their campaign for a fair contract. SEIU Local 1000 represents nearly 50,000 state workers across the region. These essential employees took a 9.23% pay cut during the pandemic and most recently were only offered a 6% raise. Since their contract expired on June 30th, these workers have also lost an additional $300-500 per paycheck.
I do not take the decision to engage in civil disobedience lightly. However, these workers and our city cannot afford to have another take-away contract. This is money that is needed for rent, food, school supplies, medical expenses, and so much more. The success of District 4 is dependent on the success of our union workers – it’s that simple.
Please join me and SEIU Local 1000 at future actions to make sure that we build a Sacramento for all of us.
