Haven’t posted in foreve, but Sing Me to Sleep somehow has a “best of #booktok” banner on Amazon and I don’t know how it got there so I’m making it everyone’s problem

Haven’t been on socials in a minute but today’s my off-my-parents-health-insurance birthday, so if ever there was a time to buy my books, today’s the day

I've been taking a break from socials while the world is imploding and apparently I'm supposed to be on 🧵s now?? Can someone please tell me if it's worth it?

REMINDER TO AUTHORS: if you had a book come out recently, don't forget to update your bios/links/website to say "Buy" instead of "Preorder." (have I followed my own advice? nope. but do as I say, not as I do)

if you defend graphic SA of women and girls in fantasy because it's "realistic" but get upset if there's a single person of color or queer character existing in a fantasy world, you should seek help. and someone needs to check your computer

I'll never forget being on a Romantasy panel with 4 authors & the moderator asked if WE thought our books were romantasy. We all said no. I don't care if people call my books romantasy, but the unclear definition can set up readers to be disappointed in the romance/fantasy ratio

i am today’s year old when i learned there is a difference between ROMANTASY and ROMANTIC FANTASY??? i just thought romantasy is the shortened version??? apparently not??? is this true??

I love my debut. She accomplished more than I ever dreamed (4!! starred reviews, Sunday Times bestseller, pretty special editions, indie next/introduce, translated in multiple languages, etc.) AND YET, I sincerely hope Sing Me to Sleep is the worst series I ever write🧵

I want to grow and evolve as an author. I want every series I write to be better than the last. The author I was 4 years ago writing the 1st draft of SMTS is different from the writer I am now. And I hope the writer I am next year is better than the writer I am today

Don't get me wrong, I love seeing new readers finding my debut! But my dream is for readers years from now to reflect on my body of work as a whole, and see how much I've grown as an author. As much as I love my first born, I hope to love my future books even more

Something that drives me wild in movies/tv shows is when other people answer someone else’s phone. Who does this??? Do people answer other people’s phones?

The MC from Sing Me to Sleep is an unhinged siren who enjoys murdering people for fun and I love her to pieces. But the MC in my next series, Reign of Shadows, is somehow more unhinged and I don't think people are ready for her

At any given moment, I'm one minor inconvenience away from saying "I quit" and dramatically throwing my laptop across the room. And my favorite coffee shop closed over the weekend

I love recommending books to friends. They're always suspicious that I'm just recommending my author friends' books—which, of course, I am—but only because my author friends are wildly talented and I like showing them off

My thoughts on this classics convo: Scoffing at kids for reading kids’ books is weird. So is: forcing kids to read books written centuries ago, mocking them for reading YA books from this millennium that are actually FOR them, & acting confused when they don’t like to read 🧵

And don't get me started on how the vast majority of classics are by white Europeans—especially men. Or how many are deeply racist and casually use slurs. Or how often white teachers use that as an excuse to drop slurs in class Truly floored kids today aren't drawn to that🙄

TL;DR 1. Classics aren’t inherently "better" than other books 2. Stop shaming kids for enjoying books written for kids 3. I promise you, there's depth in kidlit, y'all 4. This outrage over a child’s favorite book not being Wuthering freaking Heights is WILD. Touch grass
