Great talk today by Samuel Lado in our @iseressex lunchtime seminar. Children in Barcelona’s means-tested lunch clubs do better in Catalan - likely because they spend more time socialising with proficient speakers. @ayllonsara @MiSoC_Essex

🚀🌤️ New paper with @AngusHolford out in @JHealthEcon! Switching to universal free school meals reduces obesity in kids in England. Larger effects for younger children, but benefits seem cumulative over time. Paper here 👇 tinyurl.com/yc7y2azm @NuffieldFound @iseressex

Stereotyping and ethnicity gaps in teacher assigned grades, our article is out now: sciencedirect.com/science/ar… @LauraFumagall17 @hettieburn @iseressex Teachers seem to hold both positive and negative stereotypes towards ethnic minorities in England when they assign grades.

Ethnic minority pupils do better in maths and worse in English when teachers assign grades, compared to taking blindly marked exams. This is not explained by characteristics or trends, suggesting stereotypes are at play.
