Hung out in Elon Musk’s company town. Its playground is always broken. The school is accepting just a fraction of the students it was supposed to bc they didn’t build a big enough well. And you can buy any canned beverage imaginable but can’t recycle them sherwood.news/power/the-reve…

When Tesla announced an expansion of its robotaxis to Dallas and Houston last month, some investors touted momentum for CEO Elon Musk’s mission to transform the electric-vehicle maker into an AI-powered, driverless-tech giant. Reuters reporter Norihiko Shirouzu recently tested Tesla’s robotaxis in Dallas, however, and found them to still be in a beta-testing phase.

Finally, the AI feature we all wanted and needed: Amazon now creates an AI “podcast” about products where two AI “hosts” discuss the product and take your questions as if it’s a call-in show.

Last quarter Tesla was going to launch a bunch of Robotaxi expansions in the first half of this year. This quarter new markets are listed as “Preparation Underway.” What’s your read?

Enjoyed contributing to this piece by @ranimolla on @sherwood_news, diving into the unique pricing window we’re seeing with robotaxis right now 🚗🤖 It does feel a lot like the “millennial lifestyle subsidy” era—when services like Uber and Lyft were super cheap thanks to VC funding—and we might be seeing a similar playbook unfold again 👀 A few highlights: 💸 Robotaxi rides are still relatively cheap compared to traditional rideshare, especially when you factor in the premium experience—and the fact that you don’t have to tip a robot 📉 Even though AV costs are expected to keep dropping, prices today already feel lower than they should be ⚙️ Data shows the cost to operate these vehicles per mile is already competitive (or cheaper): Waymo at $1.36/mile, Tesla Robotaxi at $0.74/mile, vs ~$1.71/mile for traditional rideshare ⏳ We’ve also started to see prices creep up over the past couple months… but even with that, rides are still pretty affordable… for now
