Well... I finally had a chance to really look at the Disney Magic set
@SamsClub sent me. On closer inspection, I found the box was damaged, so I called to get a replacement.
So, here's the scam from Scam's Club: It "appears" that they send damaged items to folks who aren't members and then when you call to rectify the problem, they won't replace the item because you're not a member. Then they try to hard sell a membership if you want to get a replacement.
I say "appears" because after doing a bit of Googling, I find that Sam's Club has a statement stating they don't send damaged items to nonmember, which means they get this complaint often enough that they have to address it.
If this package had arrived in good order, we probably would have become Sam's Club members, but since the very first item bought from them is like this, I have no confidence in their establishment.
