Cobalt is used in e.g. smartphone & laptop batteries; over 70% of world output comes from the Congo, where wages are a few dollars a day & safety is non-existent. The majority of Congolese cobalt mining is owned by two foreign companies, CMOC (Chinese) & Glencore (Anglo-Swiss)
