I always let my kids read what they want (which, yes, amounts to a lot of graphic novels, Wimpy Kid, Dork Diaries, and Junie B. Jones). And guess what? They LOVE to read.

What are the kids in your life reading this summer?
I hope it’s whatever THEY love to read. If you’re able, give them lots of OPTIONS. Encourage them to EXPLORE, but ultimately let them make their own CHOICES. And, of course, CELEBRATE their achievements, whatever they may be!

This is a must read! School librarians need to be supported with budgets for the ever-changing collection needs and for specific library/technology professional development. If we truly want to improve reading, we need to be supported in both areas.
