👏A win for fair use. Executive Director @bc_butler breaks down President Trump’s new AI Legislative Framework, a massive win for fair use and a major step in protecting innovation. Dive into the thread below👇
The President's AI Legislative Framework, released this AM, gets fair use right on substance and process. Training is fair use, and Congress should leave fair use issues to the courts. TRAIN Act, CLEAR Act, and mislabeled TRUMP AMERICA AI Act are all at odds with White House policy.

AMEN to this from Re:Create member @publicknowledge - the House made a grave mistake in passing HR 6028 last week. The Senate should play its time-honored role of slowing down this runaway train before somebody gets hurt. publicknowledge.org/public-k…

Sigh. Of course the Kadrey plaintiffs would like to roll back the best part of Judge Chhabria's opinion. Will be big, if the 9th Cir takes it up!
CONSEQUENTIAL: A few weeks ago plaintiffs in Kadrey had an exchange with Judge Chhabria floating the idea that they might ask for a 9th Circuit interlocutory ruling on his Order last June granting @Meta partial summary judgment; they've now done just that on a key question:🧵

Sony or create a site-blocking regime - “But when the conversation is about internet access, there is too much at stake to rewrite Cox or pretend the Court broke something it actually fixed." ipwatchdog.com/2026/06/10/th…

Federal courts have recognized AI training as a transformative fair use. Requiring extensive data licensing risks creating high barriers to entry, which could leave smaller developers and researchers behind. @EFF explains why maintaining fair use as new technology emerges is key to competitive tech innovation: eff.org/pages/ai-and-fair-us…

Access to standards matters to scholars and practitioners!! Oppose PRO CODES!! recreatecoalition.org/our-is…
This is absolutely bonkers. If we're going to lean into private entities to develop AI standards -- compliance with which may have legal consequences -- then they must be freely available and easy to find. For reference, some professors have a book budget of <$1,000 for an entire academic year. They should not be expected to burn all of that on accessing standards for important research. via "Regulatory Markets: The Future of AI Governance" by @ghadfield & @jackclarkSF in Jurimetrics

🚨 Today, the House voted to pass the “Legislative Branch Agencies Clarification Act,” a bill that would make the Register of Copyrights a position appointed by @POTUS instead of the Librarian of Congress.
