So the Kansas jayhawks are named after the jayhawkers who are the abolitionists who fought to stop slavery and apparently Lawrence Kansas was one the very first towns in America who started the movement even before the civil war โค๏ธ I knew they had revolutionary blood like Algeria

fun fact Lawrence is one of, if not THE most progressive towns in Kansas. Theres a story of a slave catcher coming to the Lawrence to bring back escaped slaves, and there was a SNIPER that injured and scared him away. The Queer Liberation front also started in Lawrence.
