For years, they’ve been cutting operation hours and staffing at the Saginaw River Coast Guard station. Now, nationally, the Coast Guard is seeing record funding and recruiting numbers.  I told the Commandant that with all those new resources, restoring 24/7 search-and-rescue for Saginaw Bay needs to be a top priority.

Child care is so important for our kids’ development, but the sky-high costs are crushing working parents. We need to tackle this crisis head-on.

At a @HouseAgDems hearing with Secretary Rollins today, it was clear that the Administration doesn’t have any plans to address skyrocketing fertilizer and fuel prices, which are hurting our farmers. One place we should start is ending the war in Iran.

Today, I voted with members of both parties to end the unauthorized war in Iran, in order to bring service members home, rein in out-of-control spending, and stop the chaos that is driving prices through the roof for American families. Iran should never have a nuclear weapon, but for months, the Administration has failed to explain exactly what their goals are and how they’re going to end this war. Every day they delay is another day the lives of men and women of our military are at risk. It’s dangerous to continue spending billions of dollars on a war without goals while families and seniors struggle to make ends meet. Gas has been well over $4 per gallon, and cuts to health care and food assistance are pushing budgets to the brink. The people I represent have been asking for lower costs, not another forever war in the Middle East.

They do remarkable work year-round to preserve those memorials and honor the mid-Michigan servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Memorial Day reminds us that freedom is not free. It’s defended every day by the brave men and women in our armed services. Today, we honor those who gave their lives to protect that freedom, our nation, and the ideals we hold so dearly.

For 61 years, Head Start has helped millions of kids get ready for a lifetime of learning. When I worked for Michigan Head Start, I saw the difference it made that those kids had a loving, safe place to learn and play.  While extremists try to defund Head Start, I’ll fight them at every turn and stand up for our kids.

Today, the Islamic Center of San Diego was the site of a deadly shooting. Another attack on a place of worship. Another reminder that hate and violence are threatening the basic promise that people should be able to gather in peace and practice their faith without fear. I’m grateful to the law enforcement officers and first responders who acted quickly and courageously. Tonight, Joseph and I are holding the victims, their families, and Muslim communities in California, Michigan, and around the world in our prayers. Hate has no place in this country.

To the men and women of law enforcement, thank you for all you do to protect our neighborhoods. One of the most important parts of my job is bringing home the resources you need to do your job and get home safe at the end of every shift. #NationalPoliceWeek

Actually, American farmland belongs to AMERICAN farmers, not the Chinese Communist Party. Our bipartisan bill that STOPS China from buying up our land passed the House as part of the Farm Bill. For our farm economy, grocery prices, and national security, clearly, it’s time to sign it into law.
