I repeat, one of the greatest myths of Western modernity, capitalist development, and Eurocentrism is the belief that the colonial hell imposed on others is the road to civilization.

In 1977, media prophet Marshall McLuhan discussed CIA and FBI surveillance, and then turned it into one of the most mind-bending riffs on identity in the digital age I've ever heard.

For me the festering issue is how our collective imaginary has been captured by a small group of techno-capitalists. We yearn for driverless cars, yet fail to imagine what a world without cars might look like. We starve our artists while we build machines to create art.

I wonder how many political journalists will read John Hewson's words and actually reflect on their failure? I suspect none.

OK I should have realized this would bring out a lot of “my theory has been suppressed by the scientific establishment.” Please know that if you replied to this tweet with a link to your unjustly suppressed paper I personally reported it to my overlords in Big Science.

Are there other cases of a mathematical proof being suppressed by court order?

Making my way through the final pages of Graeber’s Debt. It has me considering that corrosive element of liberal feminism that celebrates the freedom to be utterly alone rather than the freedom to form bonds with others, outside gender and race without imbalances of power.

There’s nothing intrinsically justice-advancing or life-affirming about scientific research, despite the stories we scientists tell ourselves. Actual application and distribution of the benefits of research is determined by politics. Science without politics has no ethics.

In Tokyo, if you have a two story house in a residential neighborhood, *by right* you can put a restaurant/bar/boutique/workshop inside the ground floor of your house! Gives the backstreets a totally different feel to walking through a US neighborhood with nothing but residences.
Today on my morning walk to get fresh bread for breakfast, I passed a very tiny home bakery near my house. I love these tiny businesses in the suburbs that people run from their living rooms! I’ll be coming again. (The lemon pie is divine!)
