I was pleased to be joined by the Council Leader Cllr Roberts & to thank Pamela Fleming the organiser of the absolutely amazing Richmond May Fair. Great to see so many people enjoying this great event in lovely sunshine. Thanks for a brilliant visit.
Very impressed with PrideandPrejudice by @RSSatMWT. #Twickenham's York House Gardens is a wonderful setting for this inspired production. The dramatic adaptation is faithful to the original novel and very good casting ensures that Jane Austen's characters come to life. Go see!
I think Gillian Anderson is a wonderful actor. But I just don't understand the praise she is getting for her Thatcher. It's awful - she is copying the voice and intonation of her latter years, after office. There is none of the urgency and passion of Thatcher as PM #TheCrown
After 39 years' continuous membership, I left @UKLabour
in disgust at #JeremyCorbyn's failure to tackle #LabourAntisemitism. I'm in no hurry to return. His statement undermining #Starmer's response to #EHRCreport was either deliberate or inept (for which an apology's in order).
3/4 #Corbyn is trashing his own legacy and by not allowing the party to move on from its entanglement with #antisemitism he's chosen, unwisely, a very peculiar political hill to die on.
2/4 #Corbyn's response to the #EHRCreport was hasty, ill-judged, petulant and narcissistic (straight out of Trump school of politics): portraying himself as the victim rather than those who were wronged, illegally, by the party's failure to live up to its anti-racist principles
1/4 Having led #UKLabour to defeat in two general elections, #Corbyn has now set out to undermine his successor's lead in the polls and to ensure that the Conservatives will continue in government at Westminster for at least another decade.
Stunningly brilliant speech by @keirstarmer on #ehrcreport at today's @UKLabour Party press conference. Excellent that he is serious about tackling #antisemitism. But more heads need to roll, not just @Corbyn's, before Jewish community and its allies will feel welcome as members.
.@braun@remingtonuk I'm concerned that #premierinn are removing #electricshavers sockets from hotel rooms as part of their refurbishment. Are you aware of this? Is there anything you might be able to do to persuade them that this is not a customer-oriented approach?
Homebase latest: Mayor of London on Thursday approved redevelopment plans for the Manor Road site. Now itโs for Secretary of State for Housing, Communities & Local Government to make good on his stated intent to call it in for review.
.@premierinn Why have you removed #electricshaversockets from your rooms? This isn't customer-oriented, there's no mention of it on your website and no easy way to make a complaint. Complaints page links to Contact us page, but there's no contact form: tinyurl.com/y5tmroja
You refuse to act against Jew hate, @Twitter@jack.
You enable the likes of @WileyCEO to spread their poison.
You choose to allow it on here.
So we say: #NoSafeSpaceForJewHate
At 9am on Monday, let's tell Twitter it has to act. Please join our 48 hour walk out.
Apart from anything else, the optics of saying *as a proudly-anti-racist-partyโข, we should...wait until the EHRC forces us to act* are...interesting ๐ฌ
WATCH: Dawn Butler says Labour should reject the Jewish community's demands and wait for the recommendations of an EHRC investigation into the party's failings. #Ridge
I fundamentally disagree with RLB's premise that "we need to rebuild Labour as an insurgent force". Any fool can do protest and insurgency and anger. You win power, and get to change society when you stop looking like insurgents & look like a trustworthy alternative government.
Why do we need to stick the word "progressive" in front of "patriotism"? It implies we are sniffy about the normal patriotism that ordinary voters feel and think there needs to be a special leftwing version of it.
We shouldn't romanticise Blair, but his leadership was the only period of my lifetime when Labour felt like the natural party of government. Hard to remember now, but there was a time when the very idea of Tories in power was laughable.
