In 1985, U.S. surgeon H. Harlan Stone reported closing 28 patients with 7” skirt zippers to allow for easier packing changes following pancreatic surgery. The zipper manufacturer and Stone debated their use in the #NEJM, in an aptly titled editorial, ‘if you snip, don’t zip’.
